What Causes Lupus?

| As mentioned earlier, I've been diagnosed with discoid lupus. Still
trying to figure out what causes this. So far, I haven't been able to
come up with a satisfactory answer (or any answer, for that matter).
Anyone know of any definitive answer to this question?
Thanx.

| I don't think so. We would all like to know the answer to that question.
They know what can give you a flare, like getting too much sun, emotional
upsets, stress, etc. But absolutely what causes it, No. I think, they think
it can have something to do with heredity. My mother had RA which may have
set me up for it. I came down with it after a pregnancy. I think if they
could find that out, the cure could be right around the corner. Personally,
my conclusion is we are all victims of messing with our environment, bad
lifestyles and eating junk. That has to be a factor.
Just my thoughts,
Paulette

It might be interesting to do a family tree, then mark who has *any*
type of autoimmune disease: lupus, Sjogrens, rheumatoid arthritis,
thyroid etc etc.

| I agree with mermaid. I was diagnosed with lupas in april 1998. I
actually had it when I was pregnant with my duaghter in 1997. I went a
year with it. I've been asking everyone I know how does one get lupas?
no one knows. All I know is that my doc"s remedy for everything is
predisone! I also have parefial nueropathy. I e-maled him last week to
let him know the meds he had me on for ths syptoms and pain were
inaffetive. he tried to put me on prednisone!!! I answered his e-mail
and told him that prednisone did not work last time why would it work
now. He now has me on neurotin and morphine. I"m still getting no
relief. but i need to be patient and let the meds get into my body
since i just started them. If you do find out why please let everyone
know thanks Sunshine
