Hi Sunshine! I was diagnosed with advanced peripheral neuropathy before
my Lupus was diagnosed. When I was first told I had the p.n., the only
symptom I had was the numbness, but I was told that a wheelchair would
probably be in my future within ten years. (They had to be kidding!)
It wasn't too long afterward that I moved to Florida, the land of
sunshine, and I was soon diagnosed with lupus. Next, the pain started
with the neuropathy. None of the medicine specifically for neuropathy
seemed to help me. Then I had pernicious anemia dx'd and was put on
B-12 injections. I noticed within a couple of days of the injections my
neuropathy pain would disappear and not show up again for a week or so.
The doctor suggested that I take the B-12 sooner, until there was no
pain. At present I take my B-12 shots every three to four weeks and am
rarely bothered by pain ---unless I forget the injection! I am also on
Plaquenil, which could help with the pain.......I know we are all
different. I hope you find something to help your pain. I am using a
cane now and occasionally a walker around my home. And my family talked
me into trying the automated shopping vehicles and we've had a lot of
laughs and I haven't injured anyone ... I don't have my wheelchair yet,
but I won't mind it too much! I forgot to mention, I am 76 years old.
............ Good luck to you. I know the pain can be very intense.
Mary Ann.
