I'm on 750 mg Cellcept twice a day. I did much better lupus-wise on a
higher dose, but my stomach hated it and would just spontaneously
vomit it up!

I was at a medical meeting where some rheumatologists shared that they
had to discontinue a not insignificant number of their patients from
Cellcept due to GI problems.

I wonder if anyone here had the nausea and what they did for it.

Hi Beep, love that name LOL

My dear friend, who also has lupus, took Cellcept. She developed horrendous
diarrhea. Her doctor told her stay on it and try more fiber. She did and
it did nothing. She even tried the medication to stop diarrhea but it did
nothing. She ended up with lots of pain and belly aches. So finally she
stopped the drug but her blood levels shot right up.
So of course her doc said, we will wait awhile but I do feel you need that
drug to help you.

After a month or more, she had more tests and a colonoscopy. They said
everything was fine. Back on cell cept. It just started that pain and
diarrhea all over again. So she quit it.

she never had the vomiting but the gut pain she told me really irritated
her IBS and she hated that. Hard to live setting on a john all the time
LOL

That is all I know about it from her. But I do know of another patient who
has been on it and does fine. Maybe it has to do with your stomach or gut
in the first place.
Are you on any type of drug like prilosec or prevacid for GERD??

let us know

The principal adverse reactions associated with the administration of CellCept include
diarrhea, leukopenia, sepsis and vomiting, and there is evidence of a higher frequency of
certain types of infections.

I wonder if the new edition of The Lupus Book has some tips about Cellcept, under the
regular part of the "complementary" things to try for side effects.
Two people here have the new edition.

I take my cellcept on an empty stomach, about 1/2 hr before breakfast,
and I haven't puked yet.

I am on a whopping 80mg/day of prilosec for stubborn GERD and also
reglan for the same.

I have some diarrhea too! Guess some of us are just sensitive, maybe!

I don't have the best history of drug tolerance. I got hepatitis on
Imuran and the nasty cough/lung reaction thing on methotrexate. So no
more of either of those.

Prednisone, special drug that it is, gave me severe weight gain,
osteoporosis, osteonecrosis, and cataracts. I still take it when I
have an acute flare, reluctantly.

I have to take mine with food, which is cheating, but it comes right
up otherwise! Heh.
