Surgam and Meningitis???

| Just a quick question...has anyone here ever heard of surgam being related
to causing meningitis? Apparently the doctors taking care of my sister in
law are looking into that theory. She has had meningitis twice since the
first of February. They think that maybe the surgam is causing it. But,
the test results aren't back yet. She stopped taking them and she is
feeling better, but they also increased her dose of prednisone and megadoses
of antibiotics. They aren't sure of the reason she is feeling better. Let
me know if you could please. Thanks.

Hi Karla,
This is the first I've heard of surgam, but here it says that it can mask signs
of an infection
http://www.medsafe.govt.nz/consumers/cmi/s/Surgam.htm
So maybe they didn't give antibiotic long enough?
Couldn't find sign of actually "causing" meningitis.
Here's hoping now she'll be on the mend.
Meningitis is nasty. My Dad had it during the war.
They gave him a sulfa med and he had a nasty reaction and had to divert a plane
to bring him penicillin instead (to which he was allergic, rashes etc), but at
least he recovered.
May your sister have a successful recovery too.
Hugs to you and your sister.
keep in touch
J
