Dear sirs,

products called Transfer Factor.
I bought them for a friend who has cancer and he is getting stronger. I hope

them.
Have a look by yourself to:

Boosting or modulating the immune system is a negative for lupus.
Exactly the reverse of cancer.

Readers, this person's becoming a pest.

Plonk/filter him
If you are using Outlook Express, either use the Message Rules (which is similar
to Netscape or Mozilla)
Follow this guideline, for "news" https://support.nuvox.net/index.php/999
to copy/paste the posting name and email address into the rules

or plonk, Highlight/select the post.
Click on 'message' between 'tools and help' at the top of OE...
then click on block sender..
They may not disappear immediately, only when you exit the newsgroup
and come back in.

Using Netscape, firefox and mozilla, it's probably Edit, Message Filters

If you are using newsreader Forte Agent, here's how to plonk him on every
newsgroup (under that email address).
Global filters in Forte Agent:
(I assume, like other newsreaders one selects that poster's post), then:
It's just 'Ctrl & K' followed by 'I'

Am I becoming a pest? why?
Well, if boost inmune system is negative explain these results to all teh
readers who want to get better:
http://www.livingnow.net/websites/lupus.htm
and the american medical review video showed in this page:
http://www.4-life.com/TransferFactor/index.html
Do you know more than American medical society?
Excuse me if so.

Because you don't boost your immune system to help Lupus..
Lupus is the result of good white blood cells attacking your healthy cells
in your body. Look up auto immune disorders. Let me help you educate
yourself.

I can explain it very easily - these are commercial sites. Yes, it's
possible someone will feel better after a few days or weeks of taking this.
It's also possible they'll feel better after a few days of exercise, sleep,
low stress, vitamins, and sugar pills. It's also possible they'll feel
better after they get their $ for joining the sales team.

I can not find anyone called the American Medical Society?

There's the Chinese American Medical Society
The Peruvian American Medical Society.

And numerous other "Societies" that are made up of "doctors" who will write
rave reviews for unproven medications for the right $$$.

Show me *peer reviewed* articles in journals accepted by the medical
community and the AMA (that's *not* the American Medical Society) and tell
me what Transfer Factor really is - not gobbledygook. I'm a biologist with
training in immunology. The only Transfer Factors I know of are *extremely*
expensive proteins that no company could afford to package for the general
public for 50 bucks or whatever you're making off this stuff.

As a rule, there are guidelines on ASL. They're very easy to find and very
easy to follow. And here is one that is really the most important for you
to see and follow.

2. No Peddling: Groups that support persons with chronic illnesses are
often the target of "snake oil" salespersons. Though the members of the
group do not mind suggestions for alternative treatments or supplements,
posting advertisements for products of any kind is generally frowned upon.

Guide to Live by on Usenet including This Group: If you earn a commission in
money or in kind by advocating an item, do so elsewhere.

Because you pay them hefty monetary amounts to give their testimonials. All
they are are actors and actresses.
Besides, why don't you go sell your goods door to door.
This is a support group and you are not supportive.
Opinionated -yes; Supportive - no.

Just another few faith guy!
How I wish to have such amount of money to pay to so many people!!
No my friend, I don´t know them.
If it is neccesary I go door to door, but the first places to comnuicate
this great news are my family, my friends, my neighbours, and you.
I realize that anytime anybody offer a solution there are a lot of people
that offer problems. Life is so. But I know I must to offer what I have
discovered and then anybody decides: it is their illness at least! They
decide whether believing you or me ¿?
I think this offer is a great support for people with this desease.
On the other hand, did you see the american medical review video? are they
actors? What an imagination!!!

no - you don't - but the people you pay for the product that you then turn
around and sell do have lots of money. Much of it yours. These things are
thinly veiled pyramids schemes. They may not be actors - but I guarantee
you that the manufacturer of this product has paid them to give their
testimony.

Please read my post again - your post is outside the recommended guidelines
of this group.

**You do make money*** off your sales of this item therefore your posts are
not wanted on this SUPPORT group.

I don't want to have to say this again. Nor report you to your ISP.

Please stop.
thank you and goodbye.

Just because you speak, does not make things so.
What are the ingredients, the scientific date? A placebo?

Look here for some testimonials:
http://www.wellnesswatch.net/succes...s/lupus_ss.html
And here for studies
http://www.wasatchhealth.com/Pages/HumanStudy.html
And this one relating Rusia and TF
http://www.antibioticfailure.com/
The ingredients are tiny molecules that transfer to the human cells the
neccesary info about many virus and bacterias so we can protect ourselves
from them.
Since my english is not so fluent ( i am spanish) i prefer you to have a
look to these english pages.

Folks - just as an FYI.

The words "Transfer factor" and "thymic factor" used in these "testimonials" (really just ads for the various distributors) have no meaning in immunology unless coupled with a description of their purpose. Otherwise, they are merely generic terms. There are no biological agents referred to as "thymic factors". In fact, chemicals that seem to facilitate transfer of chemicals from one cell to another or one tissue to another are usually called "Transfer Proteins". They always have a defined name; such as Lipid Transfer Protein, or Cholesteryl ester transfer protein, or for example:

Phospholipid transfer protein. From a pubmed article (typically peer-reviewed articles)

Phospholipid transfer protein (PLTP) deficiency reduces brain vitamin E content and increases anxiety in mice.
"phospholipid transfer protein (PLTP) is widely expressed in the brain where it appears to function as a transfer factor for alpha-tocopherol, the main isomer of vitamin E. PLTP deficiency results in significant depletion of brain alpha-tocopherol in both homozygous" [...]

If these sellers can't tell you what a "transfer factor" is specifically; that is, a chemical name, then be skeptical. Calling something a fancy name, doesn't make it science. For all we know, based on the minimal information given in these "testimonials", transfer factor could be cow feces. And worse still - what if these really are an amalgam of transfer factors? do you really want to take a chance on what Lipid Tranfer protein, or Cholesterol ester transfer protein in concentration might do to your body?

It's not just this either - if you are given a product that has a vague term like this, do your homework please. Don't assume because there's an MD attached that it is a real chemical consituent. I think most of us here know this already but I have to say it as I feel it is my responsibility as a scientist to make this as clear as possible.

I am not disputing that these things might be helpful to some people. I am merely pointing out that there is NO meaning at all in these phrases being used. NO true immunologist would throw around such meaningless terms unless they were getting paid to do so. And then one can question their ethics. Many of them figure that the "medicine" being pedalled is basically harmless (I do believe they are required to know the actually chemical constituents of the supplement here in the US) and so getting a few bucks for saying "oh yes, this product could help." is ethical in their minds. That it actually *does* help or has actually been studied by a party that is not getting monetary compensation and that those studies have been peer reviewed, is rarely of concern to these sorts of doctors.

Finally, I know from experience as I've stated before, that acquiring and purifying human transfer factors is a very expensive process. The results of which are micro or even nanogram amounts that cost from hundreds to thousands of dollars and are usually used only in the research of other very specific conditions (such as the above protein used in the neurological study I cited). to imagine that such factors could be properly harvested and purified then sold in bulk for 50 bucks or whatever is naive at best.

Remember the old joke -

"What do you call the worst student in medical school?"

"Doctor."

One needn't be an intelligent or even a competent doctor, to give endorsements for these sorts of things.
