Author just another day...

Hi folks,
Sorry I'n not posting much.
Last weekend we had a big windstorm and a big branch fell. (I have to pay
someone to come saw it into pieces and take the rest of the brush away).
Still waiting for the guy to come quote me about painting the ceilings
that I washed a few weeks ago.
I spent most of 2 days picking up branches all over the yard but it was
coolish outside and my hand joints went red (rheumatoid arthritis?) and
cramp up into clawlike position, making it really hard to type. As I speak
my hands/fingers painful cramp, even in the lower arm. My thumbs seize up
...pointing upwards in the weirdest position I've ever seen ( only for
moments but the pain is tremendous), so It's difficult for me to stay in
touch on a regular basis with anyone at this time.

I did buy tonic water yesterday, but I forgot to drink some. And today, I
changed the toilet seat, which requires strength and twisting and golly a
few hours later, this painful cramping started up again. So I'll take it
easy for a while again. It's also coldish and damp which is when these
things seem to worsen.

I'm hoping that some of it is fibro and that soon the warmish weather will
come and will help make some of these troubles go away.
I am reading and caring about you all.
Hugs to all

Gee J, did you ever think you did too much LOL. I am sorry you are having
so much going on but now you can rest.

I believe none of us learn by doing too much, cause I, like you guys, just
go out and do it again. Heck someone has to keep up with stuff right?

Get a warm bath and soak them hands

Hope you are better real soon and post more often. It is too darn quiet
here for sure

Sometimes we just have to get things done and pay for it
later....Yuck...Praying it isn't anything more than the FM..Bad enough in
itself, but it will calm back down...

Thanks Cindy, hurting evefn more today.
But ! I got the clothesline back on a new "wheel" (the branch snapped the
thingey for the clothesline) and for the first time I've lived here it's high
enough that it's not threatening to strangle anyone who walks under it <g>
Last time I had such hand pain, it was later discovered that I had B12
deficiency.
I must go sometime and get tested soon..

Hi J,

I abandoned the group for a while, but now am back. I took on a major
reorganization of my apartment, pulling out all the stored boxes and trying
to make sense of it all. Successful in the endeavor, but I have got that
horrible backache that I got rid of with PT. So. I now will have to do my
PT exercises again, and If that doesn't help, I will be doomed to lie face
down on a table and have a good-looking man massage my back. hee hee hee.

Regarding fibromyalgia: I have never found anything that worked. I have
never had injection of my trigger points... I have so many of them, and can
barely touch them, so it freaks me out to think of someone going near them
with a needle...

I think that this fibromyalgia thing is an overlap into lupus activity. My
Doc lists "myositis" as one of my lupus symptoms. Oh lucky me. I wonder
how many of us have lupus-related myositis, and think we have fibromyalgia?
However, there are those trigger points, so I may just be talking through my
hat. Hey! I'm not wearing a hat....

I've seen them mentioned on the fibro newsgroup. I thought some said that relief
only lasted a few days.
a lady out here I first met 3 years ago. She was walking her dogs and looked
fairly healthy. She swears by the monthly trigger point injections (make her
better) yet I saw her today and she can barely walk with a walker. She could
argue that she's aged and worsened. IMO the trigger points have done not much
for her.
Neither of us are on paid medications. I live with it, perhaps she has less
pain.
(although today I took an ibuprofen in the hope of reducing inflammation in my
hands, seems to have helped)

Oops I forgot my doc tried one injection in one arm muscle once. Didn't do a
blessed thing for that pain and as I recall my arm felt weak for a few days.
My finger/thumb joints are swollen and painful. It's been cold and damp. I think
I have RA - I think my grandma had it.
Her fingers were all twisted as she aged; I don't know what she did about pain.

> I think that this fibromyalgia thing is an overlap into lupus activity.

Yes, I think we talked about that before and/or it's mentioned in the FAQ as a
possible.

Could be; I think fibromyalgia was previously called fibrositis but they changed
that because "itis" usually means "inflammation" and it was thought there's no
muscle inflammation, but some of us have overlapping conditions.

Hi J,
I haven't had a chance to read the posts, so I am late. Just call me the
late BJ. <g> Gad, I am sorry to hear that you have had so many problems. If
it isn't one thing, it is another. I can understand why you can't type. The
hand/fingers thing sounds so painful. Perhaps soaking them in warm epsom
salts would help. Are you up to reading, without any pressured to reply? I
am thinking about you and I do hope things improve with the warmth of
spring.

Hi J!

I am sorry that you are having so much pain, and I hope you can find
something to help. I could not use my thumbs for a period of about 10
years. After I had bilateral carpal tunnel surgery, my thumbs just never
rallied. But now, just in the past 2 years or so, my thumbs have been
great, owing to nothing specific I can really think of.

Hoping you feel better soon,

Mair

Thanks Mair,
I had CTS surgery on my right hand and refused the left because I still had a
sharp pain going up my arm.
20 yeras later that pain stopped. I sometimes get it when I try to twist
something with my hand, but it's not constant as it was before. Do you still
wear wrist splints? I do for sleep. I think it helps but the newer ones I bought
are longer and I think put pressure halfway up my arm, so I'm glad I saved the
older ones.

My exdoctor told me (a few years ago) that he thinks I have this Dupuytren's
Contracture
http://www.med.und.nodak.edu/users/jwhiting/dupss.html
When it happens, some fingers won't unbend, the thumb sticks straight up (in a
god-awful pain position).
Tbere's new bumps forming near the thumb jjoints.
It can happen when I flex my wrist down to get something that's hard to access.
Yesterday, when it happened, my whole lower arm seemd to "spasm" and I could not
unbend my fingers on it's own.
Had to use my left to unbend the right fingers, then massaged a painful spot
halfway up the underside of my lower arm before the spasm stopped. The pinkie
and last finger won't straighten out now.
Is that carpal tunnel?
For me, it almost feels like my fingers and arms are contracting tendors
abnormally.
However, did you manage if you could''t use your thumbs..?
I have so much that I need to get done here.

It made me laugh when I saw your screen name and munged email address...
Hugs Mair
