Beware Olay Regenerist...
|
|
| Pleiades 2005-04-05, 6:28 pm |
| I am going into my "age defying" years, and so decided to try the
"regenerist" products from Oil of Olay. Olay moisturizer for sensitive skin
is what I have always used, so I thought "what the heck?" Well, the heck is
this: I bought a small trial version that contained all three of the
products. The first two of these are meant to be put on, one over the
other... well as soon as I did that, I broke out in a bright red malar rash
:-o I sure hope I am not going to have a worse flare from just rubbing a
dab of this stuff on my skin. But you never know.
Guess I better stick to defying lupus rather than defying age; after all,
the latter one is inevitable! :o)

Yeah, well, my rash looks a bit better today, but I feel much more sluggish
than I did even yesterday. I returned the Olay Regenerist to the store, and
the cosmetics lady said "Yikes! don't put anything else on that until it
clears up." hmmm....I havent had a malar rash like this since that time I
ate a hot dog with red wine. :o)
keepin' my fingers crossed....

| Yikes.
Yeah - I'm very cautious with cosmetics. I've found the Bare Essentials
brush on base to be excellent for my skin and it lasts forever for someone
like me who just wants to even the tone a bit so as not to frighten pets and
small children.
I have received a number of samples of DHC stuff. Most of it is not of
interest to me and it's very expensive stuff. But I will confess that the
Extra Nighttime Moisturizer has been heavenly and has no scent that bothers
me. It's very hard for me to find things that are fragrance-free but that
work. I used Clinique for many years but it seems to cause breakouts now.
I found the DHC stuff on e-bay and got it a lot cheaper than directly from
the company. I also found their "Olive Milk" to feel wonderful as a
day-time moisturizer. Hubby says it smells good - I can't smell it.
OTOH, the Vit C cream - which I didn't really think I should test anyway -
made my skin itch. no rash fortunately.
I'm sure there are other good cosmetics out there. But it's hard to find
them when you never know what's going to rip your skin up.
I don't care about defying age - but moisture is critical with my skin else
it gets even more sensitive. So what do you do? You either spend bucks on
stuff that works (if you're lucky enough to find it) or you keep searching
through one cheapo thing after another only to suffer.
In general - I avoid anything that says "age-defying" or that claims to
reduce wrinkles. Most of them have some sort of mild acid or a vitamin A
derivative - both of which can irritate already sensitive skin.

well, Mair. That's just wrong. A crime against your gut.

| "Frighten pets and small children...." way to go!
I would have to say I am at the "frightening" stage right now.

| Ha! We sure love those chemical brews.
Me too, i stick to good ol' dial soap. At least it is antibacterial. Those
fumes they put in those other things are pure heck.
I use to use Olay but my use to's are history.
I sorta like the age I'm in. Scary to think of having to do it all over!
Besides, at least you have the ruby red cheeks!

Hi All,
For those who are bothered about such things (thats up to you all and I am
not judging anyone who isn't bothered, we all have our priorities), this
product is sold by Proctor and Gamble, who test new products on animals.
Go to http://www.uncaged.co.uk/pg.htm for more information on Proctor and
Gamble.
No offence intended to anyone here, whatever products you use, I just had to
put my nose in!
But maybe some of you would like to know this, animal lovers in particular.

| Yes, thanks.
Do you have any suggestions as alternates?

| I use Aloe Vera skin care products which can be obtained in health food
shops. I put aloe vera gel on my face twice a day and it is also good for
putting on any scars to heal them and make them disappear!
Also I use products of Lush (they sell online , http://www.lush.com/) and
The Body Shop http://www.thebodyshop.com/bodyshop/. They are excellent. Lush
and The Body shops have shops near where I live and the salesladies are full
of good skincare advice.
