Hi Everyone, I finally got in with the pain doc. He was pretty good very
Lupus educated and read my little bio that is first test, if they
ignore it I know I probably don't want to work with them. He listened to
all I had to say and did not dismiss any of my input. Anyway he wants to
try me on Kadian twice a day and Pomelo once a day I have looked them
up and Kadian is a form of morphine and Pomelo is actually and
antidepressant for thins like add and so on but also for some pains. And
to keep the lidakane patches for the arm. and back if I want. He
believes I am dealing with RSD but was before the finger break. It does
not go away but is controllable. And we may also be able to control my
back and hip and joint pain. So I am a little hopeful here. Will give it
a chance
I would love any input if anyone has been prescribed these meds. I am
starting Saturday so if I do get real sleepy or have bad reaction I
don't have to go anywhere and John will be home. Thanks for listening.
Life has literally been a pain the last few month way more than usual
and I have not been handling it to well So maybe some relief. i have
always been proud of the fact that I have handled the pain part well but
it really snuck up on me this year.

Hi Cindy, I haven't tried those particular meds but I know the
antidepressants in small doses are supposed to help the pain receptors in
your brain so you don't feel pain as much. When they prescribed them for me,
my doc assured me that it wasn't for depression, although I WAS depressed
because of constant pain, but to change my brain chemistry so I wouldn't
(maybe) feel the pain as much. 16 children?! God bless her; glad it's her &
not me. I had the baby from hell. He's 28 now & wonderful but the 1st 3
years - well . . .

do you mean Pamelor aka NORTRIPTYLINE
Anti-depressants (SSRIs, SNRIs, tricyclics) are frequently used in chronic
diseases for things other than depression.
Serotonin helps raise the pain threshold, helps with sleep. Serotonin and
its derivatives regulate hunger, thirst, mood, breathing, sleep, confidence,
perspective, self esteem, empathy, attitude and many other things.

Tricyclics (Elavil, Pamelor, etc) are used in lower doses than used in
depression but tend to be more sedating and help to cycle sleep. Elavil has
helped many people receive that restorative sleep so many of us don't get.

As you know, Kadian is a time released morphine. I use Avinza which is a 24
hr dose of morphine.

I'm interested in the lidocaine patches. Let me know how those work. I
have an area that is constantly in pain despite the Avinza and Norco.

Take care

The patches are great no effects just relieves the pain in that spot
best thing I have tried in ages. Yes on the pomelo that makes sence now
He just said it works with the Kadian but didn't go into detail.
Thanks

Hi Cindy, I've been on Kadian for a few years now. Kadian is great
because it doesn't feel like a narcotic. You don't get the highs and
lows of many pain meds. I'm on 60mg twice daily. I suggest that you
take 1 in the morning and 1 at night to get the most even results.
Kadian keeps my constant joint pain mostly under control. I also take
Roxicodone for more severe pain. The only side effects that I have
experienced are: (how should I say this discreetly? you might get a
bit plugged-up), your skin might itch, and sometimes it's hard to
swallow (weird). Chronic pain destroys your quality of life. Don't be
a hero, get the relief you need.

Let us know how you are doing.

You are right my fingers and wrists and ankles and toes which always
hurt feel much better. And I as well don't feel any highs or lows just
relief. I am taking one am and one pm. I have felt a little itchy and
have had a sore throat but better today. As far as the "other thing" I
would not mind a little stopped up Hope that was not to graphic. (0:
Anyway I think this just may work. I really have felt less pain with out
too much trouble. I also have the patches and they help alot. I can cut
a small piece and put right on painful spot.
Just nice to have something work for a change.

Cindy,
I'm so glad that your new meds have you feeling better as far as your pain.
I hate that so many of the meds just make your mind not care that you are
hurting or don't do anything but put a big dent in your pocketbook.

Hugs,
Sherry
