Allergens and tonsils?
|
|
|
| Hi everyone,
A little over a week ago I started packing up books (we plan to move soon.)
lots of dust and who-knows-what. That evening I had a white spot on my
right tonsil. Thought I was fighting off a bug and got nervous about that
but it didn't hurt. Just felt like i had a grain of sand stuck there. It
was gone the next a.m.
Well, yesterday I did prep work on a room I'm going to repaint - this
involved sanding (more dust and probably more "who-knows-what".) So, sure
enough in the evening I had a feeling like there was some dust or sand in
that same area and checked it out, the white spot is back. It's still there
this a.m. but there's no soreness or anything else to indicate infection.
I'm guessing, though with no real knowledge, that my tonsils are reacting to
the allergens I'm in contact with in this process - either dust and it's
denizens or mold/mildew (as every house on the Gulf Coast has a little of
this at least.) Anyone ever noticed this happen to them? Not necessarily
in response to these particular things but perhaps in response to other
environmental crud?

Could it be thrush? - I vaguely recall this is white spots. Maybe the
irritation and/or allergens set it off?

Somehow I missed that. So did Ron. And we know he's a *lot* older than me.
<EG> I remember my best friend's brother getting his out and showing them
off in a jar of preservative. That was 1971. I was 7.

well - thrush is usually on the throat vs. right on the tonsils. And thrush
can be (ick) scraped off. <shudder> This can not.
This does remind me however that it's time for me to take a dose of
lactobaccili

Hi KC, my left tonsil swelled up after the yokel next burned a bunch of brush
and garbage (like paint cans/rags etc) and green pine branches that "smoke like
crazy".
I had no white spots, but the dr. confirmed that it was red and swollen.
He gave me 2 different antibiotics, the first gave me severe stomach pain, the
second really did nothing. It took time and my own management before the danged
thing stopped bothering me (1.5 years actually).
Maybe it is gunge from the work you are doing, maybe it's a scab that falls off,
maybe it is thrush, maybe it's an infection.
One side says do the same (self-management), another says "show your doctor"
because there can be other things with tonsils, including stones and/or cancer.
I know it's hard if you already have low grade fevers, to know if there's an
infection or not. I'd hate to have you take antibiotics if you don't need them,
I'd hate to have you end up with a rip-roaring (or low grade) infection if it's
actually infected..
What to do...what to do... I don't know.
Hope you figure it out.
Hugs

| It's not thrush - I am sure of that. It is in fact a very hard white nodule
that has gotten larger as the day has worn on. no pain. No redness or
swelling at all. but it's hard like plastic. very odd. I still imagine
it's due to all the crud I'm stirring up. heh... it looks and feels like a
the head of a white stick pin. you know the round-head sort you use when
pinning a pattern? And that size or a little larger.
it came on so quick. here one day, gone for a week, then here again.
coinciding with my more active and grungy housework I avoided that work
today so who knows, it could be gone again in the a.m.

well, I just appreciate the input. I'm sure it will be fine. whatever it
is. right now it's more of an oddity and just an irritant - like that
tickle you get when you choke on popcorn or something. it doens't hurt but
it drives you nuts.
thanks,

Well, that sounds like an infection ( wanting to burst out ) kinda like a
pimple.. Yuck !
If it bursts don't swallow it.

| Hmmm... I can't help you with the tonsil thing. But, I can wish you luck on
your move. My husband and I are house hunting this weekend. I will be
thinking of you as we go through the stress of moving. You take care of
yourself!

| bleah - well, I found out what it is after a minimal search online.
and I guess I best go see a doc.
apparently it's a "tonsillith" and does indicate a chronic infection in the
tonsil. No pain, no fever to speak of. But nonetheless.
yippee.

LOL Andy.
I just read a good one. They're talking about AOL stopping newsserver
service in February and someone replied.
"They are the largest ISP and producers of coasters in North America."

okay - that took me a few seconds. Slow on the uptake this a.m.
I prefer to use them as frisbees. And I've seen them used in a cool way -
make a mobile out of them (wind-chime fashion) and they'll scare away
critters from your vegie gardens. supposedly.
isn't there a book or website to the effect of 1001 uses for an AOL CD ROM?

One of our local-group members uses CDs to decorate Christmas and
birthday cards which she sells to raise funds.
