Author query - handshakes?

Hello all,
hope you are all doing well - so many posts to catch up on...

have been away for a few weeks and had a wonderful time - only a few minor
flares.
however - while meeting so many new people I discovered that I need to learn
to tactfully avoid the custom of handshakes - it's quite painful most of the
time, not unlike having your hands stpped on...

any words of wisdom?
thanks
Leslie

Leslie, You might reach out with your left hand and grab their wrist,
followed by putting your right hand on their wrist also... and give a gentle
squeeze...Just a suggestion...

Yu also might want to have your hands full at the time, hold something which
is easy to carry but that you could not conveniently put down. Do the
greeting wit™ a smile and hello instead, as long as you look friendly most
people (here in UK) don't seem to mind about handshakes!

OMGosh.. I know what you mean some people do not know the difference in a
firm handshake and crushing your hand. I had a lady who was a social worker
for hospice when grandpa was sick..well anyways she shook my hand and I
thought I was going to smack her! She squeezed my hand so tightly and hard
my fingers was turning blue. I am a big woman and that stuff usually doesnt
bother me but this was on the verge of wanting to scream. I think squeezing
someones hand is not good manners at all.
Just my two cents

I have the same problem because of small hands, I was once taught a trick that
actually works. When extending your hand make sure your index finger and middle
fingerare are extended so that they extend up the other persons wrist instead
of into their palm. no matter how hard they squeeze they can not crush your
hand, try it with a friend first to get the hang of it. I do it all the time as
a course of habit. Good luck Jim
