Yup, methotrexate...
|
|
|
| Since I have been all over the map with my Prednisone, and still feeling
like s**t, the doc put me back on methotrexate, to which I have responded
well in the past. His question was : Why did we ever take you off it?
Well, I had to switch rheumies, and when the new one (a jerk) saw how well I
was doing, he said "I don't think you need all these meds." I tried to
tell him what was going on, but he would not listen. Well, that's the past.
I will start taking the methotrexate, it is taken once a week, in three oral
doses within a 24-hour period. Hopefully in about 3 months or so, I will be
able to get up and do something fun, like walk around the lake, and actually
enjoy it.
Did any of you mention some kind of heart problems linked to methotrexate?
I asked him... he said that was Vioxx. My doc reassured me quite well
(since he has done clinical studies with methotrexate). He also said, "when
you go to the pharmacy, the pharmacist will give you this sheet and tell you
about horrible things that are associated with it. Just nod and take the
paper and then throw it away. Those side effects are for the high doses of
meth... used for cancer chemotherapy."
I am wiped out just from riding in the car to The Big City today (that's the
city with the big orange bridge, Janers!), so I am going to wrap up in the
tatttered lama blanket and take a nap. I'll tell about the tattered lama
blanklet some other time.... bottom line: it's a big warm fuzzy.
Health and happiness to you all

| Hi Mair
Hopefully we will be hearing all about your walks and trips around the lake
and along the paths during the next few months! I am hoping for quick relief
for you with your new treatment of methotrexate... I don't remember my
dosages but I do remember it worked wonders way back when I took it for a
year... Good luck to you; meanwhile enjoy that big warm fuzzy of yours; we
all need lots of those in our lives!!
Hugs from Shelagh

| I remember you saying that you gained 30 pounds rather quickly while you
were on methotrexate. I did not have this problem last time when I took it,
and I *pray* that I don't have that problem this time (and I'm not a prayin
kind of gal!)!!

would you like me if I were that 'trim and muscular piglet as seen on TV
with 6-pack abs"?

| Yup! You are right on that score for sure it was at least 30 'big ones' I
put on thanks to that drug.... but as soon as I stopped it they fell off as
quick as they went on...... so go figure?!
Hoping that doesn't happen to you but still I would take the good effects of
the drug even with the weight gain... it was temporary while the effects
were permanent... I haven't had as many major flares since that year and the
flares I have are managed by the chloroquin and steroids with very few times
that I up the pred dose.
Good luck anyhow

Hi 'met
I think you would be cute no matter what you weighed... but definitely more
cuddly when chubby!

Oh hey! That *is* really good news! I thought the effect was for only
while you are on the drug. I know I did better for quite a while after I
took the methotrexate before.... but then I had been transferred to a doctor
who was no help whatsoever... sigh.
Goodnight for now

| Pigmet,
You are not chubby! You are exactly the way you are supposed to be! Who'd
want a skinny pigmet? You have lots of good muscles and besides if you
didn't have some extra body weight what would happen when you went
exploring? Explorers always bulked up before going off exploring. Explorers
were probably quite hard and lean when they returned but they didn't start
out that way. What would you do if you were off exploring and didn't
have/find anything to eat? Explorers must eat when they can! So eat up my
little buddy and enjoy your food. You have lots of exploring to do in a
little while because once Mair feels better you'll be taking her on
expeditions. (And as the leader of the great expeditions you will need to
know you have lots of body weight so you can protect yourself and her!)
Love,
Antibev

| I'm so glad to hear you are going to get something that will help you.
You've had no energy and have felt so lousy for so long that I think this is
so promising. I'm sure by Christmas you'll be feeling much better and then
by the end of January you'll be a new woman!! What a nice thing to look
forward to in the new year.

| Pigmet is just being Pigmet!!
Gosh I wish they could do something to give me more energy!!
Of course after holding the sander for a few hours on Saturday you know what
my hands feel like today!! I do switch hands all the time. I don't need fine
motor skills for sanding so I use either hand. I was ambidextrous as a child
but learned to write with my right hand but I still do many things
left-handed. No one said I had to write with my right hand I was told to
pick one and use it to write. So I guess I did. Anyway I have digressed.
What I was doing on Sat was not "hard" work, in fact, I sat on a stool in
the back yard while sanding Victorian porch embellishments on sawhorses. But
I was wiped out in nothing flat!
