| I am maw maw again. This time my son's wife had a baby girl. It is their
first child and so pretty too. Weighed in at 8 pounds 9 ounces and has
light colored hair. NOT red yet, my son had really red hair, so we are
hoping LOL She is 21 inches long.
Name is Kennedy Marie.
If you would like to see some pics, let me know.
Long week being away 4 days but so worth it. NOW I have one new born, one
3 months and one 13 years. HOW cool with Christmas be? Wait till picture
time with maw maw and paw paw.
I am doing alright but still can not manage to get that sed rate down.
Doctor is having fits she can't get me down on medrol and it is more and
more all the time. Sad but true. Now there are problems in the LOWER part
of me and that might take some fixing up....or something.
I will see the GI doc the 25th.
I also read something that I need to run by you. Has anyone ever heard
that MTX causes higher levels of homosystein in the blood of Lupus
patients, and to ward off that, you need to take High levels of folic acid?
NOT just for mouth sores from that!!!
IF MTX does this it can cause Lupus patients to have strokes and heart
problems. NOW I know there have been lots of us on MTX and my doc wants me
to start, so what are your thoughts on this?
PLUS READ the new LUPUS NOW magazine..IT IS great this month
hugs to all
and to all night night

| Hi Janers,
Congratulations on the birth of your granddaughter. I can't help you with
your MTX question. I have never taken it. I am sure some of the ones with
experience will drop by soon with some info.

OH wow!
I am so jealous! I just can't wait for the day that I become a 'nana'.
Congrats to your son and DIL!
Have a wonderful time with this little girl, enjoy her and spoil her!
Your christmas this year should be a really joyous one! You are very
blessed! (I for one would love to see pics!)

From what I read:
High homocysteine levels represent an important independent risk factor for
coronary heart disease which is enhanced by hypertension.
It is unclear whether elevated homocysteine levels alone increases your risk
for heart disease, your overall risk must be evaluated with your personal or
family history of heart disease.
Methotrexate is just one medication
(also: anticonvulsants, cyclosporine and levodopa) which can increase the
levels of homocysteine in the blood. Folic acid, vitamin B6, or vitamin B12
can all lower plasma levels of homocysteine.
The levels rise with age in men and women,
usually being found higher in men.

| Well congratulations on the new addition. How much fun to have a new baby
that you didn't have to grow yourself. Haven't had one in my family for
years....
Pigmet: Does that length include the tail?
Mair: Pigmet! don't be rude. It's a sweet, pink little girl baby.
Pigmet: Oh, so it will get its fur later?
Mair: <sigh>
Regarding the MTX, my doc always prescribed folic acid with it, but no, he
never mentioned homosystein. and he likes big words. And he conducted a
lot of the research on using methotrexate for arthritis. I see him in two
weeks, and will try to remember to ask him, since he may be putting me on it
again.
We hope you are feeling better soon,
Mair and Pigmet

Yes, or at least that it causes something nasty and folic is the
answer.. and if I ever find the reference I'll post it

http://adam.about.com/reports/000063.htm - very long but interesting -
about 1/3 down it says
Elevated levels of homocysteine, which occurs with deficiencies of
vitamins B6, B12, and folic acid. Homocysteine is now a strong suspect
in heart attack, strokes, and blood clots.

Hopping on to agree with Shelagh.

| Lemme see if I can stay glued this time. Hi lady janers, cloud here. And
congrats on the baby girl!! I love pictures so if you want to send me some,
pjasper@cfl.rr.com in case you do not have my addy any longer.
In regard to your going on the methotrexate, was wondering what you were on
before. I had successfully taken plaquenil for 3 or more years till my
stomach cried, "no more." I have been on Methotrexate for over a year now
and it works very good. It has brought down my sed-rate levels and that's
wonderful.
But to the contrary, dang prednisone has messed up a couple things. I now
have diverticulosis (and osteoporosis) Actually, have had it a long time but
back a year+ ago the gastroentrologist did not tell me. I did not get a
copy of his records so I blame me. After all, I tell folks to try and keep
up with copies of tests and so forth. Guess I was just happy to know there
is/was no major colon problems during a colonoscopy & endoscopy, i was
satisfied with the verbal info after these tests were done.
Let me think.. besides not being blown away by hurricanes but losing
freezers full of food, I have been doing fairly well. Maybe that is more
mentally well then physically well? Heck, I take three antidepressants. I
should be the happiest person alive! Wait... well, one of them, the
trazadone, i use as a sleep aid. Does that one count? LOL
All my doc appts are beginning to pile up at the end of this month and
beginning of next. I am going to be appt. busy. I wonder what i did before
i saw at least one doctor around once a month? Oh hum.
I sleep with oxygen at nite now. I had one of them sleep studies for sleep
apnea but the sleep therapist doc tended to believe I was more an insomniac.
Told me I got too much sleep. Yeah right? I don't think he read my chart
with all my health issues. Just an insomniac. LOL The nite oxygen came as
a result of an all niter blood oxygen test. Anyways, now I have mr. huff n'
puff machine and seems to help. Who knows.
I also have brain lesions and "white matter micro-vascular disease." LOL
don't try and look that one up, it is doctor slang for aertereosclerosis of
the brain. What does that mean? Guess it does the same as all the other
aertereosclerosis stuff. This info was from an open MRI which they finally
ran. I have also had a closed MRI of my neck recently done and will have to
see the doc in a couple weeks to find out the results of that.
So, the beat goes on. AM on over 20 drugs, off and on some. Started
Lipitor recently... a very low 10 mg dose. He wants to see if it helps any.
Other then that, except for my left-leg starting to act up again, i feel fit
as a crawdad in alaska.
Have noticed in my 5 or so years of becoming a member of the cane raising
society, seems I collect new illnesses all the time.
Actually, I think I have all of them now! LOL
How you doing kiddo? Besides being a new nana.
Always,
cloud

| Opps, forgot... not unusual though. I have taken folic acid for a long
time. Shortly after I began the methotrexate.
A rheumy doc at mayo put me on a script of it. Said the script is somewhat
different then the OTC.
I believe it has many benefits. Can't think of any of them though at this
time. EMPTY head.
So what problems are you having in the lower department? I'm a mess there
too. Have been passing trace protein in urine for a while. Maybe it is all
from the bout with diverticulitis I had. Who knows?!
Oh, and did I ever tell you I got my Jazzy, electric wheel chair. Love it.
Just recently got the leg lifts for it because my legs swell if I sit in it
for very long. Try and walk more though since I got it. Mainly use it for
the long hauls. Also, I can ride a bike! Only need one leg to peddle a
bike. I do not walk very good at all.
Anyways, rehugs to all... have a bunch messages here to catch up and read.
Always,
cloud
