It may be the imuran causing problems
|

| I took it and had diarhea (sp?). Only take half a 25 mg tab but I've
had GI problems most of my life and it wouldn't take much to set off an
episode.
I'm calling the rheumy Monday and see what they say.

Hi ya Nell, I wish I had answers. I know someone who is on imuran and had
the runs, but she hasn't mentioned if she still does. Another is on
neither of the meds you mentioned and had the runs (but I haven't heard
from her recently). She called it IBS and that's mentioned in the FAQ
http://www.ghg.net/schwerpt/ASLFAQ/symptoms.htm#gastro
You aren't eating any baby food are you (tasting before feeding)? Some of
that is pretty "rich". Kids often have foods that our digestive tract
might not be happy with (and vice versa).
So I'm not sure what to say. Is your Lupus otherwise under control with
the current meds? Or do you feel that cutting one out might be worth a
try? Only you and your rheumy can decide. I sure sympathize with the
problem. I think "mad dashes" to the bathroom are part of many of our
lives unfortunately.
Hugs to you, Nell,
J

| I was on the imuran and at first it did give me the "runs" but then after a
couple days it did not. I started on 25mg too.
MY problem with it was drop in BP and weakness but found AFTER I stopped it
that it was due to zelnorm and my bp meds.
But the nausea too hit me hard and vomiting started on 50mg and 75mg. But
I did take it in the morning. BJ suggested I take it at night, but the
rheumy stopped it before I could.
I am now debateing to try it again, and will see tomorrow what the rheumy
suggests. SHE says MTX with injections but, .....she won't start it
because I am leaving for Florida again in Jan for a couple months and she
doesn't want me to start and have problems while that FAR away.
SO...........maybe I might try imuran again. I have been upping my medrol
too much and seems like medrol higher doses are helping more than what I
previously used. I do not like that nor does the doc. doesn't sound
good....too many problems with it.
good luck with the imuran, if too much diarrhea, go get some benefiber and
use daily or metamucil, and if that don't work, ask doc if you can try
imodium while on imuran....ASK first....

I'll give it a bit more time. He's planning on taking me off it at
some point anyway.
I've felt better but I've felt a heck of a lot worse, too. Along with
lupus, I have OA, asthma, seizure disorder, reflux, high cholesterol,
low thyroid (though that often goes with lupus, right?), RLS, sundry
allergies, anti-cardiolipin antibody syndrome, and pre-osteoporosis
(there's a term for it but I can't think of it off hand). Maybe a
couple of other things I might be forgetting.
I'll get my little list of questions ready (keeping it short because
doctors eyes tend to glaze over if they see a legal pad size list of
questions).
Thanks
Nell

| Hi,
I am on imuran too, I have been on it a long time and recently increased to
75 mg from 50 mg. I am used to feeling slightly nauseous a lot of the time
but I can cope with it. I take it in the morning after food. I eat breakfast,
usually cereals with soya milk and lots of weak tea. I feel very sick if I
get slightly dehydrated, or low blood sugar or when travelling on a bus or
taxi with certain kinds of drivers, the sort who swerve and stand on the
brakes a lot! I try to get over that sort of feeling by sittjng quietly and
drinking water, juice, or weak tea. Fluids really seem to help me. I think it
would depend on how severe he nausea was if I was to consider stopping it . I
think if I was vomiting because of it, I would stop taking it.
