Do I Have Impotence?

| hey this is pretty embarasing but I am 16 years old and have notice
lately that I don't get an erection unless I masturbate, other than
that even when I was 11 I would get one from seeing the girl I liked,
now I don't even get one when I look at porn - pictures or videos.
Other than masturbation, the only time I do get an erection is
sometimes after I have woken up, which knearly rarely hapens now, but
even the dreams were most likely non sexual. I understand impotence is
when you don't get an erection at all, but does anybody know what this
problem could be labelled as?

Yes, it can be labled as "sexual dysfunction", and understand, that covers a
lot of ground.
Let's look at a few of your issues.
The erection that you have when waking is called a "nocturnal erection"
(NE). It has nothing to do with sex, or erotic dreams, it's natures way of
getting blood through the tissues and oxygenating the tissues to clean the
impurities out. It happens to us all (hopefully), and when it doesn't, it's
a good indication of something *physically* wrong.
You say you can masturbate, but are concerned because you don't get aroused
underconditions that you use to get aroused over.
What "turns us on" changes. Our sexual tastes change. The ability and dsire
to ahve sex is part of our "libido", and is affected by physical, hormonal,
and psychological issues.
If you are successfully masturbating, something is still sexually appealing
to you, and that means you still have some libido.
No, you're not impotent.
I highly doubt that there is much wrong with you at 16, but if you have read
through many of the posts in this group, you'll find one common theme:
Go to your Dr., be honest, get some lab tests to find out where your
testosterone and prolactin levels are, and go from there.
To find out what *is* wrong, you have absolutely got to find out what is
*not* wrong.
I highly suspect that you are going through some issues mentally and
emotionally, but only your doc can tell for sure.
We've all had issues in the past (and some in the present), and....back when
McCartney was with a group called "The Beatles", I was 16 once too.
I don't envy you being 16.
Let us know if we can help.

| No you don't have impotence. This isn't a "problem." This is a very
normal part of growing up, maturing sexually, and gaining mental control
of all your body parts.
Not having spontaneous erections or being easily excited is something
that fades out after age 14 or 15. Your brain and body are getting
things sorted out and your erections will begin to mostly occur during
sleep, upon arising in the morning or when you are intentionally
excited. Every once in awhile there will be an incidental boner but as
you gain more control of your body, you'll be able to 'think it down.'
Nocturnal erections (NEs) are a part of normal REM sleep in mature men.
Dreaming is also a part of REM sleep (at all ages) but dreams are not
related to NEs.
Congratulations -- The 'problem' of going to the blackboard in 9th grade
Algebra and causing the girls to giggle at the bulge in your pants is gone!
Hope this helps -- have a great summer!

but are you sayin that if i watched porn or saw naked girl, that it
would be normal for you to like watching it or want to masturbate
because of it, and not get en erection just off by looking at her?

Hello again. Three suggestions:
1. Take your question to someone close to you, family-wise and
culture-wise. For instance, adopt a mentor with the same 'Y' chromosome
as yours -- your Dad or an older brother. That guy will have a better
understanding of your whole being and the family culture in which you
grew up. The advice will be more accurate than anything you'll get
here. If Dad is away, depend on your Mom.
2. Summer time is a great time to grow. Play ball, socialize and
consider dating. Ask this question of your Dad or older brother, "Dad,
at what age did you start to develop erections when you kissed during a
date?"
3. Avoid alkaloids -- any substances that end in "...ine" (Caffeine,
Morphine, Codeine, Nicotine, Cocaine, etc.) Avoid alcohol, marijuana
and hard bicycle seats. You'll do OK!
