Author Any implant recipients out there?

I'm functionally at the end of the road - have extensively tried every
legitimate treatment for several years now (following a stroke with
neuro damage). V, C, and L were effective for a couple of years, but
gradually stopped working; I never had any luck with Muse, and
injectables (Edex, Caverject, and trimix, either alone or stacked with
an oral) have not worked at all. Three urologists and my internist all
agree that only remaining alternative is an implant, and all are
recommending the surgery while downplaying the trauma of the surgery
and recovery.

I realize that an implant is irreversible, but since I have no chance
of functioning normally that is not of any concern.

Are there any implant recipients out there who have been through this
who can tell me if the results are worth the surgery and recovery
period, or if I should just forget about a sex life and take up
shuffleboard instead?

Thanks
Dave

Try posting to alt.support.cancer.prostate. there are a couple guys
there with the AMS 700 implant. from what i have heard on that
newsgroup, and from my ED doctor, men a much happier with the implant
versus the injections, MUSE, or the pump (all of which I have tried).
I did consider the AMS 700, but put off that decision because I have
the AMS 800 artificial urinary sphincter and am having some problems
with that and I will probably have surgery again next year to get that
working properly.

Be sure to find out how long the device is expected to last before it
will require replacement. I have heard conflicting testimony on that.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info - I have posted there and will see what response I
get. I have spoken with one guy - a patient of my uro - who got an
implant about a year ago (AMS 700) and is more than happy with the
results. My main hesitation is the surgery and recovery - this is heavy
duty stuff, and I want to be REALLY sure I want to go through with it.

Thanks
Dave

Same situation here. Have the AMS 800 artificial sphincter which will
be needing a tuneup or replacement next year. After that, I'll think
about the other implant.

I had the implant on Jan 2nd. It is still to soon to tell as am not
healed fully as of yet will see Dr on 1st might be able to have first
inflation then. As I was in the same boat nothing else worked.
