MONDAY, Sept. 18 (HealthDay News) -- Hormone therapy for men with
prostate cancer has become a mainstay of treatment, but a new Harvard
study finds that the treatment increases the risk for diabetes and
heart disease without improving survival.

This is a very long story and I did not want to post it all, basically
the hormone treatment they are speaking of, is remove the gonads, or
medication to stop testosterone production and envolves stopping
testosterone production.......

Yes, and there are therapies that include giving the afflicted person
estrogens as treatment. Gynocomastia is an expected by-product of this.

So, not only can you not get an erection, but you grow tits, and your beard
stops growing. You'd be a big hit in the state penetentiary.

Now...two points that I'll add here. One has been discussed here over the
years. That is, Doc's say that every man, if he lives long enough, will get
prostate cancer. It occurs at a later stage in life. *Generally*, that stage
is when we are producing very little testosterone, and more estrogen than
women. So...if we got hardly any testosterone going on, and lots & lots of
estrogen, why are we then getting prostate cancer? Why not when we're young
and pumping out the hormones?

Second point....I was among one of the "cast members" to have a part in the
facilitation of the release of POW's from Viet Nam in 72/73. I remember
these guys getting getting on the planes and helo's for transport in Da
Nang, maybe 72 hours out of the paddies. What shocked me at first, was how
utterly feminine a lot of these guys looked. No beards, voices were a little
too high pitched, no muscle structure, and the appearence of of...breasts on
some.

I queried the first flight doc I could find, and he said it was because in
some camps the prisoners were fed only vegetable matter and some rice, no
meats. On that dietary regiman, they quit producing testosterone and
produced more estrogens, ergo feminization.

I don't think it exists, but I would love to see a follow up study on these
guys, health wise, to see how high the incidence of prostate cancer was with
them in regard to the average population.
