| What is the best time of day to take the blood tests for CBC Panel,
Lipid Panel, Comprehensive Metabolic Panel, A1C, LH, Prolactin, T4
Free, TSH, Urinalysis w/ microscopic, Estradiol, Free and Total Psa, T3
Free, Cortisol, DHEA Sulfate, Free and Total Testosterone, Growth
Hormone, 1GF-1???? Is it best to fast 12 hours prior? Stop meds (only
take Diovan HCT daily & Fosamax once a week) Male, 62 years old.

For the CBC, you need to fast. For that, the best time is, as early in
the AM as the doctor's office is open. If you have an extremely high
carb meal (especially with high salt) the previous night, you may get a
false positive on diabetes.
Your Testosterone and possibly your Estradiol will be highest in the AM.
For your PSA, you should not have sex nor masturbate for three days
prior or you may get a false high reading.

There's been a running battle over this for the last 10 years but it's a
good idea to snag the blood sample for the PSA before doing an annual
DRE. Not convenient as most docs do the DRE and write the lab order at
the same time. On Uro annual checks, my doc sends me to the lab two
weeks before the visit. My HMO's lab orders for 'T' say 6 a.m. to 10
a.m. I was sent home when I showed up in the afternoon.
