Author Impotence caused by excessive masturbation...

Hey,

This is a bit of a personal one.

Noticed a progressive flagging of my sex drive over the past 8 years.
I think, besides going from mid 20s to early 30s.

I think this is because of excessive masturbation and porn usage. I
would typically spend about 5-15 hours a week doing it. It sounds like
a lot but it is usually 1-3 hours a few times a week and perhaps a
binge once every week or two. Like I said, this is kind of personal.
It's like an addiction - kind of like the gambling addiction some
people have. Once I get the feel for it I just have to start and I
can't stop once I get started.

I have noticed that I find it progressively hard to get hard. It has
got the the stage that I pretty much don't get spontaneous erections
anymore and more often than not don't even have an erection when I
orgasm.

I'm hoping to cut back time spent masturbating. I guess my question
is, to what extent are my erections likely to return? Have I done
permanent damage to penis, prostrate or the way my body learns to get
turned on, or is my body just screaming out for a break?

Anyone else been in the same boat?

Hope you can spread some light on this,

Mick

One mistake many men make is believing they're somehow different, and do
things different, from other men. As we age and 'get out of shape' it's
almost natural that everything ages. I would consider the possibilities that
something else may be causing your problems. Read my weekly posts (of which
I haven't posted yet) and see if something else may be causing your problem.
Like: are you a heave coffee or coke (caffeine) drinker? Out of shape? Used
to be a bicycle rider (the seat can cause problems). On any medicines?

See a doctor; tell all; have a blood test.

Well, Mick, this boat ain't exactly a pleasure cruise, is it? Many of us
have pondered the same thing that you are thinking about.

First of all, read Jerry's response, it's a good one, and I'm going to cut
'n' paste from Lmac's response to a different poster, hence;

>
> And at that point you are having sex with the one person in the entire
> world
> who knows exactly what you want now and next!
>
> HH
>

"Sure, I hear that. Now, is this going to help with an E.D. problem that
occurs during sexual contact with another person? Or, does it just
aggravate the problem through avoidance?"

Now, then....that being said, understand that we get posters on a regular
basis with the same concerns, so your concern of masturbating "too much" has
been seen times before.

Take comfort, Mick, there's no such thing as "too much".

Well, when your reaching for a bloody stump, maybe you should back off for
awhile ;-)

Masturbation does *not* cause impotence.

Actually, I am one of those that in my 20's and 30's thought maybe I was the
king, then I read a study where they documented that a test subject
successfully masturbated 40 times in a 24 hour period in a lab.

Man, I was heartbroken.

Masturbation is a normal, healthy thing. Researchers say, now, that a man
who ejaculates 20 times or more a month has a low risk of prostrate cancer.

I'll skirt a few standard things, for you and lurkers that have not come
forward.

The vast majority of ED cases, are caused by one or more of a few root
things, and can be cured/helped.

They are, in brief:

Chemical causes..medications, ingestion of too much caffeine, alcohol, etc.
Meds are probably the big one, we've all had experience with that at one
time or another.

Physical causes...this covers everything from having a bad valve in the
penis to nerve damage to a prolactinoma..which gets us to...

Hormonal issues..Not enough testosterone, too much estrogen, too much
prolactin, only a hormonal screen will reveal anything.

Psychological issues..stress, guilt, overwork, relationship issues, etc.,
etc. This also flows into something that I have threatened to diatribe on
here for some time now (and shall), libido.

Libido is a really weird thing, and as much as we don't really want to think
about it, a lot of times what turned us on last year, doesn't do it for us
this year. I made a nice step up a few years back realizing that the
subscription I had to playboy, and have had since I was *16* years old (I'm
in my 50's now), just wasn't cutting it. I wanted something less socially
acceptable, and discuss this with my wife, and she was all for it. Hell, I
wanted to see *trashy women*!! (There, I said it)

Point being, man, I had to be honest with myself, and my partner. It spurred
my libido just a little more.

I'll bet bad relationships are a huge factor in lack of libido and ED.

In summary, Mick, I'm no different than most of the regs here. Some of us
are hetero, and some of us are gay, but we all have one pupose, a good sex
life.

I went at one point in my life over 1 1/2 years with no erection, unable to
masturbate, and feeling really, really bad about it.

I decided to do something about it, found this group, found these people,
started dealing with Drs. (a whole nuther chapter), and now I'll run against
most any 20 year old. Yeah, for me it was a regular course of testosterone,
DIM, a CPAP machine, and much advice from this group about tests, and
encouragement, but it can be done.

If you want to do it..welcome to home plate.

M.

Hey Jerry and M,

Thanks for your responses.

While you say that there isn't such a thing as too much, I'd like to
try less and see if my body comes back wanting more. It's a bit like
chocolate - if you only have a little you end up craving more, but if
you have too much, or are forcing yourself to eat it then you loose
your craving. Think pulling back a few levels and letting my body
learn to enjoy things a bit more is a good idea before seeing a doctor.
If after a few months things aren't coming back then I'll go in having
totally ruled out one cause.

Hard thing is breaking the habit. Usual problem is that once I start I
don't stop for hours. Any advice on this? Once again when the need
comes along it's not a logical decision, it's just a habit. I know
that it is normal, but I think 15 hours a week is excessive for someone
30yo.

Any further thoughts would be valued.

Jerry, Any suggestions as to how to persuade a doctor to do the blood
tests? I've discussed this issue with two Urologists and my PCP, and
all three have refused to test for anything other than testosterone.

___________

It may be difficult for you to do, the pattern so deeply ingrained, but
at least take a couple days off (spend the time getting some outdoor
exercise?? ) and see if things don't swing back to normal for you;
random erections again and a healthy pattern of noctural ones. If one
of us older guys did what you do, we might be pooped. But in your
thirties, you have a lot of good stamina ahead of you.

I'll jump in here while Jerry is out.

I've been tested for estrogen and prolactin along with testosterone under 3
different drs. since starting. None of them have said, "no", but a couple of
them were like, "Uhhh, OK".

You can alaways try a "humor me, Doc. Is it hurting anything?" approach, or
do have most of us have done, and switch physicians. They're just
physicians, despite what a few may think.

I went to an endocronologist for a year, he initially tested *everything*.
Got chromosome tests along with every conceivable hormone. The chromosome
test alone was over $1,000.00, but, hell, it was worth it, even though
insurance did pay for it.

Funny thing was, when I wanted to switch from HMG to HCG, he resisted until
I brought the A.A.C.E. guidelines into him (courtesy of this group), and he
confessed to not being aware of it and switched me.

And he was a *fertility* expert.

However, every testosterone test I've had, and I've had very many, I've also
had E2 checked. Otherwise yopu're playing basketball blindfolded.

You don't ask them, you tell them. It's your money and they work for you.
You'll be surprised at how a doctor acts, once you establish that
relationship.
