Gotta honestly say that I'm almost clueless. I've got what I think is a
pretty smart Uro. He's a problem-solution & results oriented guy and
doesn't spend much time on causes; nor, has he addressed the P.E. issue.
Take the pill, play, do the deed, enjoy.
I had used an anesthetic cream, inside a heavy condom, with a ring for
several months before I admitted I had a problem and wound up in the Uro
clinic. I mentioned having used lidocaine and he just let the subject
die, moving on to erectile quality. He had the tech shoot me up with
BiMix, checked quality and wrote out a script for Viagra. Tech gave me
the sample pack, the lectures on titration and priapsm and sent me on my
way. When the first Viagra dose produced a solid erection, the P.E.
went away. Three years later I ran out of steam on Viagra and, P.E. was
the first clue that there was trouble ahead (sounds physical) --two
encounters later, both with P.E., I was functionally impotent (sounds
mental). Uro changed the med and my dosing routine. Solid erections
came back and the P.E. vanished. (sounds physical)
I suspect my Uro reads me like a book, keeps things simple and avoids
trivia that would only complicate matters. Am I comfortable with the
Uro doing this? YES!
I like to believe that there are very large differences in the sensory
signals that are sent from an erect penis than from one with a lesser
quality of erection. Take the pill or shot, pump up the quality to 2.6
or better and the P.E. goes away. Nice, clean and simple! This is a
neat mental crutch that forces the argument over to the physical side of
things.
Still, when I sense my lack of a solid erection, some automatic thought
creates a subconscious feeling of inadequacy. That triggers anxiety,
the wheels come off the wagon and that triggers a P.E.incident. (Hmmm,
back to mental. --mild nut-case!)
Another viewpoint: During an encounter, on a minute-by-minute basis,
oral meds make me less dependent on my partner to meet a lot of my quick
needs for specific stimulation (squeeze that, finger that, rub there,
less, more, oh-yeah, etc.) -- those are the things that we used to do
years ago. As my stimulation needs increased, the easy path was go the
sex-toy route and eventually turn to meds. Meds carry me through
situations where some extra prodding or tickling might be needed and the
whole encounter seems more like it did when I was in my 20s or 30s. As
such, I can go through an encounter and share fewer needs/desires for
one specific stimulation or another. I do not make my mate as
responsible for my erection as she was, years ago. Simply, because it's
harder work now (without meds) than it was then. In this regard, the
meds are helping deprive the relationship of a lot of very important
communication and learning. (Hmmm, mental or physical? toss a coin.)
This makes a strong case to dump the meds and ratchet-up the stimulation
side of things, go natural, bring the porn DVDs back into the bedroom,
learn by example, put a lot more communication and sharing of
responsibility into each encounter. On the other hand, the bruises and
fingernail scars can be a bit embarrassing in the gym at lunchtime.
Am I now med dependent -- yup. Could I do without? Tough! (Mental or
physical? beats the hell out of me Colonel, I only work this job, never
think about it.) (:-)
Story: Three Marine officers are shooting the bull. The male
Lieutenant claims that sex is 80% pleasure and 20% work. The female
Captain says, "wrong, it's about half and half." The Major says, "nope,
more like 30-70, far more work than pleasure." About that time the GSGT
walks in. The Colonel explains the dispute and asks the Gunny for his
opinion. Gunny says, "you're all wrong, it's just pleasure -- if there
was any work involved you would given the whole job to the Enlisted ranks."
