What a disappointment

| Labor Day I spent the day in the pool with my wife. After having a
hefty meal, I took a Levitra. It didn't work. I kept losing my
erection. I felt the head rush, so I don't know why it didn't work.
I'm still experimenting with pills as my wife and I do not have sex
that frequently, but probably would more often if I could maintain an
erection. Levitra has worked for me in the past. Is there any reason
that it might not work once? I only have one left, as my doctor gave a
few boxes of samples. They are 20mg, so I know it's not that I need to
take more. What do you do if Levitra doesn't work? Should I ask for
Viagra?

| A lot of us have had better effects and a longer window with cialis, but I'm
sure your doc can give you samples of both cialis and vigra for you to try.
Two totally different drugs, totally different effects. Just see which one
you like the most.
Cialis can take anywhere from 2 to 8 hours to kick in, but is much more
tolerable with the food/drink combination than viagra.

I believe it's the "hefty meal" part. It took too long for the pill to get
into your system. Although it's better to have no meal at all before taking
the pill, you might consider trying the pill 15 to 30 minutes before the
meal. Although the time before sex might be longer away, you'll have a
better chance of the pill having an effect. Let us know if it works.

Lmac's comment:
I started writing this and as I moved along, I came up with more and
more things from my own E.D. history that might have gone wrong for you.
Just for 'grins' let's assume that this happened on Memorial Day rather
than Labor Day and that you've not been 'fretting' over this for the
last eight months. For openers, let's throw out the psych aspect. {{:-)
Young guy with too large of a dose: Don't neglect the idea that 20mg
may be at or above your personal limit for Levitra and you are being
overwhelmed by negative side effects. That, along with mild sunburn
might have done you in. Titrate back to a 10mg. or even 5 mg total dose.
Full stomach: I tend to agree with Jerry -- the pill may have got lost
for a couple of hours amongst the hot dogs, relish and mustard. The
plasma-build was slow. Remember, that you're shooting for stomach
absorption rather than small intestine absorption. If you add a slow
build-up with the "water immersion" situation (see below) you might have
been doomed before you started.
Older guy with too much UV exposure: Assuming you are over 35 here are
some questions from an 'aging' pool owner: How much body stress were
you experiencing from UV exposure?? Mild skin inflammation from mild
sunburn?? It may not hurt much but when you consider the total area of
skin that's generating 'stuff' back into your system, it can add up to a
lot of 'uglies' in the bloodstream. Some of that inflammation reaction
is a plus for sex, other parts are a negative and when the negative side
of it outweighs the positive...etc.
Generally, I don't respond to sun exposure the way I used to and my
track record of erectile quality after a day of sailing, summer golf,
pool, etc. has been lousy, with or without Viagra/Levitra. You mileage
may be similar. Not necessarily lousy; just, not excellent. Consider
additional sunscreen! Sorry, you may have to write off an afternoon of
beach volleyball, a six-pack of beers and then expect to slide under a
blanket near a fire-ring and do sweaty-sex, Levitra or not!
Water immersion: Another possibility was that you are asking your penis
to perform after several hours of water exposure and some local
electrolyte imbalance in the whole pubic region. Some guys don't but, I
'shrink back' a fair amount while in the pool. I don't know what the
effect of several hours of water immersion is on the PDE5 situation in
the penis but, coming out of the pool, an injection of Trimix might
offer more hope than does an oral dose of any PDE5 inhibitor. The
Trimix guys might offer a better analysis of this hypothesis.
Levitra and food: I'm about a year into Levitra after 'graduating' from
Viagra. I needed an empty stomach for Viagra and never had stomach pain
from that drug. I need to eat something with Levitra. For me, one soda
cracker is the right amount of food with a Levitra tab.
Staging the dose: I'm a 10-15mg (total) user. I split that pill into
three or four parts. Take the first chunk, wait 30-45 minutes then take
the second chunk. Wait another 45 minutes and stir the mix with plenty
of stimulation -- etc. (I don't like all the waiting but this is
working for me.) If you want to add a meal to the mix, try working
Jerry's suggestion into this routine.
Oh yeah, toss the psych angle back in. National holiday, let's perform
and show my wife a great experience......
Whew... time to stop and chase mama aboutst the casa--whoops missed it.
She bailed-out to get her nails done -- big date this evening!

I think the meal was a huge part of it, now that I think of it.

LOL, yes it was Memorial Day.

The water was also a factor, I believe. I had major shrinkage and I
probably should have changed into some dry clothes and not taken that
last minute swim before attempting sex.

I ate half of a london broil, corn on the cob and beans. I stuffed
myself.

Heh. I did get an erection later on that night, but it wasn't as
strong as it would have been if not for the combo of su, water and
food.
Thanks for making me feel better. I was so down about this, thinking
there was no help for me in site.

Could have been worse. You could have 'slathered' Bernaise on the
London Broil--fat really slows down absorption. Viagra worse than Levitra.
Night before last I used Jerry's advice. Took the whole 20mg (with soda
cracker) when leaving for the restaurant at 6:45. Light dinner was an
hour later. Didn't look like food for a real man. It looked like
'pickings' for an anorexic debutante but it left me capable at 11 p.m.
Now days, I leave the prime rib, steak, baked potato and extra wine for
'non-occasions' with little chance of getting layed.
