Caverject after vasectomy

| I am having a vasectopmy on October 14 and have an appointment with
another urologist for ED and PM on the 27th. If they give me a test
injection on the 27th, would I be more prone to pain from the caverject
because of the recent vasectomy?
When they say that caverject causes pain, is it pain in the testicles?
or elsewhere?

| I cannot answer your question about the vasectomy, but I do have experience
with the Caverject. If you are not allergic/sensitive to the drug you will
not have any pain. Unfortunately I am allergic to the drug. I think it is
something like prostaglandin. That is in MUSE, Caverject, and is one of the
ingredients in Trimix. All three cause me discomfort to the point where
intercourse is not possible. It does produce the erection, but it hurts.
In my case the pain was in the penis itself. It is more like "pressure"
than a sharp pain. Mine did not throb, just a constant discomfort that
lasted almost a half hour. I was uncomfortable sitting or standing. I
could not find a comfortable position. I tried a lower dose with the
Trimix, but then it did not produce an erection sufficient for penetration.
However, all that said, many people told me not to give up because over time
the discomfort diminishes. That turned out to be true, although there still
is a degree of discomfort with the injections for me. The injection itself,
by the way, does not hurt. That was a big deal for me going in. That
turned out to be nothing, if done correctly. Pay attention to the
instructions. Alternate sides. Avoid veins, that will hurt. And get the
small insulin needles. With a needle that is too long you can actually hit
the urethra. That happened to me. It did not hurt, but I hit something
hard and the needle would not go in any further, so I just backed off a bit.
Hope some of this helps. Good luck to you on the 14th and 27th.

I had moderate shaft pain on one injection, zero pain on the another
four injections (all by Uro's nurse). I think pain may vary with mix
ratios in Trimix as the Nurse always asks how much pain I have and makes
a note of what I say. Either I'm being used as a lab rat or they are
trying various ratios for Bimix or Trimix should I ever need it. Never
had testicular pain from an injection.
Comparing notes to other guys who have had vasectomies, I think I've had
more pain than the average bear (didn't take it easy for 24 hours after
the surgery) and all of that has been testicular pain. Thirty-five
years ago my flight surgeon did the snip-job. He had maybe a dozen
procedures to his credit--probably left more scar tissue than will a Uro
with hundreds of procedures behind him. Also, techniques have no doubt
improved over the last 30 years.
Looked at another way, I was still having very rigid NE's in my late
30's (when I got snipped) and never woke up with testicular pain from an
NE. My post-vasectomy pain problems have been with impact--taking a
basketball foul or having one of my kids run up to me and hit me in the
crotch. Impact pain was about as bad as when I took a hit as a
teenager. Went to wearing a cup for basketball and when on the field
during youth sports. After 3 or 4 years, pain from impact returned to
what it had been before surgery and I tossed the cup.
You're gonna do OK.

| I am just scared to death. I developed an abnormal heart rhythm after
taking viagra. (At least I think so) I got real cols the next day and
every so often for six motnhs after it. I got sick at my stoimach, my
heart skipped beats. O honestly thought I was going to die.
I have always suffered from being "premature" my whole life and it has
destroyed my self condfidence. I also have minor errection problems.
(It is enough for intercourse, but only about an 70 percent erection
sometimes less.)
I am married and my wife says it does not bother her but I know it
does. One time when I proded her about not wanting to have sex with me
very much she said" because you dont do anything for me". I can still
hear those words in my head. I can only last 2 minutes.
I was hoping the caverject would give me confidence in that I could
"keep going". But I am deathly afraid of hurting my heart or dying or
something especially after that viagra incedent. I am only 33 but have
had short runs of ventricular and supra ventricular and atrial
tachycardia.

Those symptoms sound like a classic anxiety attack which would be unrelated
to the viagra.

| Why did they start several days after starting viagra?

Coincidence. A random association, rather than a correlation or
cause-and-effect.

I'd tend to agree. The most notable cardio-event I had was when I first
started Hytrin. The Uro had me on 5mg at bedtime. At about midnight we
had a "toe-touch" that led me to swallowing 100 mg of Viagra. Didn't
think a bit about the situation until I noticed my racing pulse after
climax--then remembered the warning. Ten minutes later I grayed out on
the way to the bathroom. Symptoms were gone within an hour. No residual
the day after.
I do get a "hangover" feeling the next day when I use >100mg of Viagra.
About the only long-term symptom the docs (Eye, Uro, Cardio and PCM)
attribute to my use of Viagra and Hytrin is a slightly depressed BP
(110/68 at age 72). And that's probably more the effect of the
alfa-blocker than the Viagra.
What kind of Cardio training does the doc have you on?

| I went to the doctor with uneven heart rythem and after checking me out
(including ekg) they said that they could find nothing wrong. I changed my
diet to vegetables, fruit, garlic, and a small amount ot chicken and
increased my cardio workouts and my heart straghtened right out. I suspect
that caffein may have had something to do with it. But it doesn't hurt to
go back to basics.
