Yeah, google this group with the word, "andropause". However, fix a sandwich
before you do, you're gonna be reading for awhile.

You might want to take a read through Shippen's book, "The Testosterone
Syndrome." He's not selling anything.

Thanks for the help and feedback. I was wondering if anyone here is
using medicine similar to Andriol, and if so, what are the (side)
effects? Thanks a lot.

| I had used this for about three years with quite good results and no
side effects at all, but for me Testogel is more convenient, cheaper
and more effective. So I am using now the gel. I have written in a
quite detailed manner about this topic, so Googling for my postings
with an extra "andriol" in the search should give you some reading
matter.

thanks for the reply. I have tried to find your post but to no avail.
Would you please summerize the effects it had?? In not just interested
in libido but also in overall improvement of well being such as better
sleep, more energy, more mental alertness etc.

| You might want to read "The Miracle of Natural Hormones" by David
Brownstein M.D. It is $14.95 and available at
www.centerforhoisticmedicine.com
I use one of the doctors in the practice and one of the things they do
for all new patients is check hormone levels. I am on
Armour Thyroid, DHEA, Testerone Cream
(made up for me at a compounding pharmacy) and Pregnenolone. I am 76 and
people think I am 60. This stuff works!

| My use of andriol started in fall 1998 and ended 2003 (oops - more than
4 years, not about 3), when Testogel became available in Germany. The
initial dosis was 6 caps (240 mg TU) over the first 3 months the
between 3 and 5 caps depending on the results of total T tests. At the
begin total T was about 150 ng/dl and with Andriol I could maintain
levels between 300 and 500, which proved to be just sufficient. Some
regulars here may argue that even 400 is faily low, but for me it was
sufficient (Today, with the gel, I can maintain 650 ... 800 with a
moderate rise in estrogenes, then, in the Andriol days, my estradiol
was virtually zero)
I did not have a full physical exactly at the begin of the therapy, but
I had one one year before when I was 50 years old and my overall shape
was detestable. Today, with 58, I am in a much better state.
All effects became visible only after about 6 weeks, when things
changed dramatically followed by a slow, continuous apward trend for
another year. Since then things have become fairly stable.
Note that in the following list, causality is not so easy to
understand. The individual points interact with each other and "post
hoc, ergo propter hoc" is an everpresent fallacy.
- Sleep and related: I always had problems with insomnia which led over
the years to increasing levels of alcohol use. Rather shortly after the
begin of the hormone therapy the insomnia improved and my trend in
alcohol consumption reversed. Still drinking too much, but stably so.
In the last tests before TRT my specific liver values tested at the
borderline of damage. Now they are in the mid of the normal range.
- Mood : I had problems with depressive moods (nearly clinical) all my
life and quite strongly in the years before TRT . This has improved
quite much; there may be some interaction with my sex life. Anyway, 2
years into the therapy I was able to give up smoking (after 40 years)
- Weight and fitness: In the first year my weight dropped by 15 Kg.
After giving up smoking I gained some but i weigh still 8 Kg than 8
years ago. Physical fitness increased, but this may be caused by the
fact that I took up more exercise.
- Energy and alertness: This may be strongly interrelated with mood and
sleep problems. Subjectively I feel that my professional prowess (which
for a programmer is highly dependent on energy), has improved.
- Libido and related: Quite incredible but something one should not
boast about. I should note, that the TRT alone never was sufficient to
fix my ED problems, so penetrative sex without Viagra does not work for
me. On the other hand, with the TRT, my response to Viagra is very
well, perhaps too well ...
