I was on Androgel darned near 5 years ago today.
It really didn't do a lot to help me in the long run. I believe there
was a small boost to my Testosterone initially, but not enough to put
me anywhere near the 'normal' range.
I wasn't on it very long. Additional testing found that I had high
prolactin and, therefore, low testosterone due to tumors on my
pituitary gland.
My doc started me on Androgel when my T levels came back low. I had to
ask for the additional tests.
This is sort of a long-winded way of saying that if you haven't had
any bloodwork done past getting your testosterone levels checked, you
should do so before starting testosterone replacement therapy. It may
be a time saver in the long run.
(My apologies if you've given your bloodwork results. I scanned back
over recent posts and didn't see anything -- but that doesn't mean I
didn't miss them.)

| Instead of a "brand name" cream you can have one made up to your
doctor's prescription by a compounding pharmacy. A 3 month supply
(applied twice daily) costs me about $50. Other hormonal levels you
should be checked for are DHEA, Pregnenolne and thyroid.

I also did Androgel for 1 1/2 years, quitting 2 years ago, and one of my
best friends just quit Testim after a year.
Our results were:
*Very* small rise in T level (On 10 grams per day, applied to shaved
shoulders and abdomen with a baby food jar)
*Very* high rise in estrogens (My E2 was running at 200% over max)
*Very* expensive.
We have both gone to T Cypionate weekly and found it to be the cat's XXX for
us. If you want to do a gel, I would strongly suggest you take note as
suggested by a sage member of the group, and get a compounding pharmacy to
make you a cream. Much cheaper and possibly more effective for you.
