| In the last 3-4 weeks I've seen a noticeable loss of libido. I'm 30. I
usually think about sex 24/7 and this is the first time in my life that
it's not on my mind that much. It's a little scary. I'm wondering what's
going on with my body. Erections aren't what they used to be. They're
still good enough to have sex, but they also feel weaker. And sometimes
after 20-25 minutes of having sex, they also feel a bit weaker. They're
still strong enough to go on but sometimes, barely.
In the last year I've started to suffer from Hair loss and I've recently
started taking a bunch of supplements that are supposed to help slow
down or even stop HL (about 2 month ago I started these). But I don't
know, I feel different.
The supplements I'm taking daily are:
- centrum performance
- vit. C: 500 mg.
- Zinc 20mg.
- a B complex (b1 25mg, b2 25mg, b6 51.5 mg, niacinamide 75 mg,
pantothenic acid 125 mg, folic acid 0.2 mg, biotin 100 mcg, b12 100mcg)
- MSM 1000mg
- vit. E 400 IU
- Omega-3 complete triple fish oil blend 1000mg
- pygeum 50 mg
Saw palmetto extracts (from Nu-life. It's called "Proactive For healthy
male functions")
http://www.nulifevitamins.com/produ..._Name=Proactive
it contains:
- Saw Palmetto Berries Standardized 20:1 Extract (85% Sterols & fatty
acids) 160 mg,
- Pygeum Bark (90% Phytosterols) (Pygeum africanum) 25 mg,
- Tomato Standardized10:1 Extract (0.2% Lycopene), (Lycopersicon
esculentum) 10 mg,
- Isoflavone Concentrate 80 mg,
- Stinging Nettle Standardized 5:1 Extract (2%Plant Silica) (Urtica
dioica) 60 mg,
- Pumpkin Seed 4:1 Extract (Cucurbita pepo) 25 mg,
- Oyster 50:1 Extract (Crassostrea gigas) (Zinc rich) 100 mg.
Anyone might have a clue as to what is going on?
thanks for any help.

| Hi,
You have fallen into the trap of trying to cure everything by treating
yourself with supplements and herbs.
The primary concern I have is about the hair loss treatment. There has been
discussions of tragic results of the various treatments that are a hormonal
cure for the root of the hair. I don't understand the discussion but
supposedly it has an adverse effect of not only the testosterone but other
areas of the body.
These concerns may not be on the bottle but you should check GOOGLE to see
if anyone else is complaining about problems. Do the same for the rest of
the things that are not regular vitamine pills.
If you really have hormonal problems, don't try the boosters as they may
work temporary and you wonder later if they really had a significant effect.
Sometimes you get the placebo effect only.
Don't expect your GP or urologist to treat you. The doctor that provides
hormone therapy these days may just have started because of the popularity
of this field. These doctors frequently are not trained in endocrinology at
all and get their technical information from pharmaceutical reps wanting to
sell their products. When an out of the ordinary problem comes up like a
child in puberty with poor development, they have no experience and it is
dangerous even though the kid will not die. The courts can't even find good
doctors to provide the facts on what is right and wrong about hormone
treatment.
It is important to know if your doctor has treated andropause for more than
10 years as he will give you the right exam and the correct amount to help
you.
My doctor is Dr. R. Don Gambrell, Augusta GA and he has treated men for
andropause for decades and his mentor Dr. Greenblatt pioneered hormone
therapy in the 50. Check them out on GOOGLE.
Check his web site and he does answer questions:

| Hi C,
I was in the same boat a year ago, the only difference is that I'm 35.
I took a multitude of supplements and nothing worked.
I went to a health show and met someone who does Live Blood Cell analysis.
To make a long story short, He suggested I go through a cleanse.
Go to your doctor and get a blood test. Have him/her check your testosterone
and hormone levels.
What I discovered was stress and poor nutrition lowered my testosterone.
When I completed the cleanse, I lost close to 30 pounds ( I wasn't trying to
lose weight) . Over time your body accumulates toxins from poor dietary
habits , pollution. The cleanse helped me shed all the crap that was in my
system and allowed me to rebuild. Think of it as doing an oil change. We do
it to our cars, but we don't do it to our bodies. My guess is you are not
absorbing any of your supplements since you have never cleansed.
From what I researched, a lot pesticides, insecticides and whatevercides
mess up your hormonal balance as well. Eat organic, you won't escape all the
pesticides, but reduce most of them.
Once you complete a cleanse you may find yourself with more energy and
probably be able to absorb your supplements better. This was my experience.
Afterwards, I supplemented with maca and within three days I was a new
person. Problem solved.
You are on the right path with your supplements. I don't like Centrum since
it uses synthetic vitamin E ( which is essential for people with our
condition) and uses artificial colors. Look for pharmaceutical grade quality
vitamins. Some may have a lot of filler and binders.
Do the following....
1. Get a decent water filter - get rid of Chlorine - check www.aquasmart.com
Also get a shower filter. You will probably absorb more Chlorine that way
from drinking it.
2. Eat organic produce - reduce intake of pesticides, etc
3. Read "The Food Connection" by Sam Graci - great book regarding how food
regulates your horomones.
4. Get a decent Multi-vitamin. www.symmetrydirect.com/TakeBackYourHealth
(one of my sites)
5. Cleanse. There are many products, do the research or check the products
on my site above.
6. Measurement is the key to success. Don't take your word or my word for
it. Get a blood test, get LiveBloodAnalysis. Take results to a Naturpathic
doctor to make sense of it.
7. Research . You alone are responsible for your health. Don't take my word
for what I wrote here. Research and investigate yourself.
8. Reduce/eliminate junk food and exercise regulary. (I'll assume you do
that already)
9. Supplement with gelatized maca once you completed a cleanse and feel that
you are absorbing your supplements
Cheers!

I have read somewhere that Saw Palmetto can cause ED. I've also read
that it is used to treat ED. I was having enough problems that I
discontinued its use (ED problems, that is. Nothing I could put on Saw
Palmetto ... I just didn't want to take any chances.)
Of course, ED and low libido are two different things.
Anyway, I agree with Ernie. I spent a year trying to fix things
myself. I imagine that may work for some if they have the right kind
of problem. Maybe over the counter items can fine tune a person. I
don't know. In my case it was a waste of 52 weeks.
I have a tumor on my pituitary gland (two actually, but I hate to
brag) that caused my hormones to be out of balance. I had high
Prolactin which caused low Testosterone. My libido tanked, my
erections went to hell.
I can't say that I actually noticed when my libido dropped -- I wasn't
able to say, or example, that in June I was horny as hell and in July
I was blah. Mine may have been more gradual.
In any case, you should get to a doctor have have your testosterone
levels checked. Based on those values your doc may want to do more
testing -- or you may want to ask for more tests. Don't let your doc
put on you Testosterone replacement just because you have low T values
.... you'll want to try to find out why they are low so you know that
you are being treated correctly.

I would ditch every supplement. Get a real multi-vitamin, Rainbow Light
makes some great vitamins that are assimilated very well. Many grocery
store vitamins just don't break down well if at all.
Also, do you work out? Lifting is the single most effective thing you
can do to increase natural testosterone levels. Squats, leg presses,
etc. Focus on the largest muscle groups, legs, back, etc.
Cut the fat. A high fat diet will kill your test. and sex drive. Quit
eating at fast food places. No Atkins diet, etc. Fruits, Vegetables,
whole grains, high fiber.
Try that for a month, see how you feel. I bet you will feel better.

ERRRR.
Wrong, it depends on the type of fat.
Cutting out good fats will actually cause a DROP in T levels. They key is to
cut out the crappy fats which are contained in fast food, like saturated
fats.
Eating healthy fats, which are found in nuts, eggs, fish, will increase T
levels. Do NOT cut out good fats completely. Eat a moderate amount, as these
will help increase testosterone, growth hormone and will help you to lean up
more. Studies show that people who supplement with fish oils capsules have
higher natural T levels and actually increase lean body mass.
I can post studies if you guys would like proof.

Why not just stop taking all that worthless crap and seeing if your libido
returns? Many of the herbs and supplements touted as helping libido actually
have the opposite effect for many, including Stinging Nettle and Saw
Palmetto. The more of those unregulated weeds you throw down your cakehole,
the likelier you are to develop real health problems, and the poorer you will
be. Just back off for a month... and see what happens.

| Same issue at 30.
Doc checked Total Testosterone, Free Testosterone, and Bound
Testosterone levels, found total was 180 (this is 100 units BELOW
baseline) and the others were low normal. He also found high levels of
Prolactin, which kills Testosterone.
He put me on Testosterone patches. That lasted about a week... it was
expensive and the patches came right off in hot weather.
Then he put me on Androgel. That lasted about a week... it was
expensive, had to be used daily, and I wasn't going to have sex wearing
a shirt forever (seriously, that's what the product literature
suggests).
Third, he put me on Testosterone by injection. He was nervous and
lectured me about abuse potential and ordered blood tests every month,
but he eventually came to trust me over the course of a year, and
eventally prescribed me my own box of needles and ampule of Test,
letting me do my own injections.
Visits to 5 endocrinologists produced 4 saying 'continue the shots' and
one who tried to tell me to stop the shots and take Viagra, caffeine
pills for fatigue, and an antidepressant for my mood when Test levels
dropped. (ummm..... No.)
My advice is to check your three types of Test levels, then go and get
shots from your doc. Yeah, it's for life, and yeah, it will save your
sanity, your body, and your relationships.
