| Hi - I have been on lexapro ( antidepressant ) drug for about 2 months
now. It was to control my anxiety and it does seem to work well. Only
problem is a side effect is that it makes it much harder and sometimes
impossible to have an orgasm. My wife and I were wondering if there
were any drugs that could conteract this effect as I don't want to give
up the lexapro.

You may have to make a decision between having a sex life, and taking
lexapro. SSRI drugs impair libido, erectile capacity, and the ability to have
an orgasm. According to some former users (I am one of them), the effects are
semi-permanent, especially if you take these drugs long term. Ability to
orgasm is the first signal of a problem. Over time, you will lose your libido
and your ability to sustain an erection. If depression is a problem, you'd do
well to look into Welbrutrin (which purportedly has prosexual effects for
many users) as an alternative to the SSRI drugs. Talking therapy
(psychotherapy) is another avenue you may wish to explore. In older males,
depression is one of the symptoms of low testosterone... something you might
want to bear in mind.
