Recently switched from a $200.00 Androgel prescription
to one compounded by a local pharmacist. First time he
used petrolatum (vaseline) as a base. Yuck ! Too greasy.

Any reccomendations for a better base?

b.t.w. the Androgel script was costing $200.00/month;
the compound is $33.95/month.

Hi,

Seems like the pharmacist should know what is being used in Androgel instead
of vaseline. Not rocket science.

A common base is PLO (Pluronic Lecithin Organogel). It's
not greasy, and has good transdermal efficiency. It's often
used for transdermal hormone medications. Compounding
pharmacists should be familiar with it.

A possible prescription would read: "Compounded 2.5%
testosterone gel using PLO, apply 2 grams/day to skin".

By contrast Androgel is 5g @ 1% or 50mg T. So 2g @ 2.5%
is also 50mg T.
