Over the last 6 months or so, I've taken between 300 to 1,000 mg of SJW
daily. Its helped with depression as much as any Rx AD's have I guess.
What I have noticed is a loss of libido and erection frequency and
firmness. Nothing else in my life has changed, i.e. meds, etc - only
the addition of SJW. I can only assume that the SJW has affected my
libido and I was wondering if others have experienced this? PLEASE,
don't offer you opinions or comments if have not had the loss of libido
problem. I want "hard" (pardon the pun) facts from users, not
opinions.

How about hard facts from the Mayo Clinic?

"Side Effects and Warnings
In published studies, St. John's wort has generally been well tolerated at
recommended doses for up to 1-3 months. The most common adverse effects
include gastrointestinal upset, skin reactions, fatigue/sedation,
restlessness or anxiety, sexual dysfunction (including impotence), dizziness,
headache, and dry mouth. Several recent studies suggest that side effects
occur in one to three percent of patients taking St. John's wort, and that
the number of adverse events may be similar to placebo (and less than
standard antidepressant drugs). Animal toxicity studies have found only
non-specific symptoms such as weight loss. One small study reported elevated
thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) levels to be associated with taking St.
John's wort."

I found SJW a mild but effective antidepressant and at first it seemed
that it was having no libido/dysfunction side effects, but after a
couple of weeks there was a mild onset, which never progressed to full
impotence, just a numbing-down. Can't remember the dosage but as I only
used it for a couple of months to take the edge off depression I can't
say what would have been the result for a longer usage.
