what does Viagara really do?

Hi group
I don't understand about drugs like Viagara, Levitra, and Cialis.
I will say first that I do not have ED.
On the other hand, I have buddies who do not have ED either, yet they
take drugs like Viagara as a sort of recreational drug or 'party pill'.
They claim that with the pills they can have sex three or four times in
a row.
Do drugs like Viagara and Levitra and the others work on the mind, the
body, or both? Do they increase desire or ability? How do they work?
Do they increase the intensity of orgasm? Do they increase the amount
of ejaculation?
Are there dangers for men without ED to take such drugs?
I have never tried such drugs myself, because I am afraid that sex
without them would never be 'normal' again, and that I would always want
to take something to reach that experience again.
Sorry if these questions sound naive, but I really don't know where else
to get an informed opinion. Any replies appreciated.

Refractory time is better for many men. It doesn't go to zero though. The half
life of the various drugs are different. Viagra seems to dissipate the fastest,
but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Getting rid of a drug out of your
bloodstream quicker may be better for you health wise over the long term.
Taking *any* drug when you don't have a medical need is a bad thing.

Chemically, they work on the body only. However, there is also is an element of
"if you believe it, it will happen", so that's the mental effect

There is no chemically induced increase in desire. That said, the effect is
very real and may lead to wanting to do it more often. Ability? Sure. But only
if the drug addresses a specific problem.

There are two naturally occurring enzymes in the body that relate to an
erection. One opens the valve that lets blood into the penis, the other opens
the valve that lets the blood out. The current "big 3" ED drugs inhibit the
production of the second enzyme, thus making it easier to keep the blood where
you want it.

No.

Certainly. That's why you should at least consult a doctor before starting them.
The more serious dangers occur when you are taking nitrate based medicine or
have liver, kidney or blood pressure problems. Otherwise, given the number of
doses taken over the past few years, it appears that the ED drugs are relatively
safe.
Long term effects have yet to be seen though.

Not an uncommon concern. If you don't have a problem now, don't take them. The
drugs are not addictive in the classic sense. They do not do anything to the
nervous system. If you can get it up, but lose it relatively quickly, you might
find V and the others useful. Keep in mind they all have side effects.
Headaches, muscle aches, etc., are very common.

Usenet is not really the place for reliable data. Try going to Pfizer and the
other company's websites. You'll find the package inserts online for reading.
With a little more looking, it's possible to find the medical studies and backup
data.

it.you'll be better off.
