Recovering from Prostate Surgery

| I am recovering from a radical prostatectomy two months ago
(nerve-sparing) and am trying to regain my erections. Before my
operation, at age 66, I would have to wait at least 3-4 days after an
orgasm for my batteries to recharge before I could have another one.
Now I have a "dry orgasms" with weak semi-erections. I find I still
need 3-4 days after a "dry orgasm" before I start to feel horny again.
I would have thought that without a prostate and with tied- off sperm
ducts that I wouldn't have to wait that long anymore. I will probably
get a prescription for Viagra or equivalent next month when I see my
doctor to see if it helps.

| One of the effects of a radical can be a shrinking of the penis. It is
often recommended that one use a VED to overcome this.

| I ditto that. And not just because of shrinkage.
As soon as you have healed enough, vacuum pumping could be wonderful therapy
for you. Short (in duration pumps), but repeated in one session, tend to
mimic the positive effects of normal nocturnal erections, introducing a lot
of newly-oxygenated blood to regions that have not been getting a whole lot
lately. This (oxygenated blood flow) also encourages nerve regrowth. Even
if you had a "nerve-sparing" procedure, some nerve damage is inevitable.

| It seems like you would be a good candidate for one of the oral meds,
especially if you are recovering erections after two months. I am 47 and my
RRP was almost eight months ago. Unfortunately nerves were spared one side
only. I have had a few signs natural erections might return (some very
infrequent enlargement with and without oral meds) but for the most part
things are pretty quiet. On the positive side I've been using injection
therapy with trimix for about three months and results are often excellent.
In fact in many ways my orgasms are more intense and long-lasting than
before surgery. Neater too :-D
