Yep. He's got it right. A titer is a measure of the amount of a specific
antibody in the blood. If you have enough of the antibody for, say, measles,
then your immune system has the ammunition to destroy an invasion of measles
viruses before they have a chance to produce even the mildest case of the
disease. In other words, you are immune. The viruses and the antibodies do
not know or care WHY your body has produced all those antibodies; whether
your immune system was stimulated by a vaccine or by an earlier case of the
disease itself is irrelevant. Actually, the word "titer" refers to a method
of measuring by successive dilutions until the specimen no longer produces a
response to a test reagent. This method, is most commonly associated with
tests for antibodies, however.

Nobody claims that vaccines aren't profitable, just that they aren't such a
huge segment of the industry that they would justify a conspiracy to market
ineffective and unsafe products to inject into the children of the world
(including the children and grandchildren of Merck's board of directors, no
doubt).
