| Blood devices donated to NHS

A LIFE-saving alternative to blood transfusions is being offered at
hospitals in Leeds.
Two devices have been installed at Leeds General Infirmary and St
James's Hospital in the city which recycle blood lost during surgery.
The cell salvage machines have been donated by Jehovah's Witnesses who
cannot accept any form of medical treatment involving blood products.
But they will be available to anyone undergoing major surgery as well
as those who refuse blood products.
Consultant haematologist Derek Norfolk said: "Doctors and nurses are
increasingly concerned to avoid unnecessary blood transfusions and red
cell salvage during operations can make a significant contribution to
better blood transfusion.
"This new technology can be of real benefit to patients needing major
operations and will also help us to respect beliefs of patients such as
Jehoavah's Witnesses who prefer to avoid all blood transfusions."
The machines, which cost =A35,000, have been donated by the West and
South Yorkshire Blood Conservation Group of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Medical staff in Leeds have an international reputation for pioneering
work to minimise blood loss, and have even carried out organ
transplants using bloodless surgery.
Health chiefs are looking more and more at measures to conserve blood
stocks due to concerns over dwindling numbers of blood donors as well
as the risks of infection from blood products.

| That's not the point. The WT doesn't run soup kitchens or charity
institutions. They claim that the "good news" is the best and only charity
they need to give the poor, sick, hungry, and cold. Yet James said
otherwise. Something about if you wish someone "well-fed and keep warm but
don't give them those things", then what good is it? The WT bashes the
Salvation Army and other charities, but the other places do real, concrete
things for those in need. THEY are the ones practicing true Christianity,
not the WT.

$ And they strongly discourage their members from doing any volunteer work
unless it's to build more Kingdom Halls. They don't even run a free
clothes-closet for the needy once a year in the poor areas. What the heck
would it cost them? A few extra cents in electricity and some water in
their Halls? Their selfish self-serving GB will not allow it!

$ As if those poor people can eat, wear or keep warm with their boring,
redundant magazines. This has to be one of the least charitable
multi-billion dollar so-called religions I ever heard of. They can spend
millions on huge fancy complexes in NY and just ignore the homeless person
in the doorway of the WTS.
Yet James said

$ EXACTLY!!!! And any JW with one remaining shred of humane emotions and
common sense left will agree with you.

That is the point. Charity is not just handing out money to the poor,
Nor feeding the poor all the time. The WT is considered a charity
under the guidelines of the United States laws.

I think you know this, but the Watchtower in the USA has an emergency
relief organization. This orgnanization feed the poor gets them
clothes, and even rebuild homes. In Grenada 52 homes were built from
scratch after a hurricaine hit this year. And they do this world wide.
Of course you are going to have disgruntled people like Carol, aka
Cracklin, aka Reel Mckoi, say they only service JW's first. But this is
incorrect.

Financial contributions play a key role. They make possible the
production of Bibles, Bible-based literature, and the obtaining of
places where Christians can congregate. (Hebrews 10:24, 25)
Contributions also provide relief funds to help victims of wars and
natural disasters.
We don't advertize our relief work. Jesus told us that when giving
gifts of charity, don't let your right hand know what your left hand
is doing.

The genuinely charitable don't concern them"selves" with the
"self"-perceived/judged lack of charity of others....
In other words, instead of whining about what others *aren't*
doing, why doncha go do what you think ought/need be done
