You may not be in a high risk group. The only ones getting the flu vaccine
until Oct. 24th are those in certain groups (like a pair of high school kids
I know, one has asthma and the other has a genetic heart condition), from
http://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/qa/0506supply.htm :
The following are the priority groups which should be targeted to receive
inactivated influenza vaccine (i.e., the flu shot) prior to October 24,
2005:
a.. persons aged 65 years and older, with and without chronic health
conditions
b.. residents of long-term care facilities
c.. persons aged 2-64 years with chronic health conditions
d.. children aged 6-23 months
e.. pregnant women
f.. health-care personnel who provide direct patient care
g.. household contacts and out-of-home caregivers of children aged <6
months
