IS CLEAR CHANNEL tripping or what?
The schizophrenic radio giant that banned shock jock Howard Stern and
the Dixie Chicks from its airwaves sees nothing wrong with the
sexually exploitive contests held recently at four of its stations.
Called the "Breast Christmas Ever," listeners were asked to submit
essays explaining why they should be selected to get a free breast
augmentation. Apparently, 91,000 listeners reportedly entered the
contest, sponsored by a Tampa, Fla., radio station.
In its defense, Clear Channel says the stations, in Florida, St. Louis
and Detroit, acted on their own.
Oh, come off it, Clear Channel! By many accounts, you're a bastion of
conservatism. So, why pull your punches on this issue? These contests
are blatantly tasteless.
Now, I'm no prude when it comes to breast implants or any other form
of plastic surgery. But I'm troubled that once again, it's women who
are being singled out to undergo potentially dangerous cosmetic
surgery to increase their appeal to men.
And where's the equal treatment? Why couldn't the stations offer
similar contests geared at men? I'd be curious to see how many men
would have written essays trying to win penile enlargements.
Contest winners had to agree to submit to before-and-after photos that
would be posted on the stations' Web sites. Would that still have been
the case had men been involved?
Just last summer, Clear Channel was asked to pay a record $1.75
million fine to resolve indecency complaints against Stern and other
such on-air personalities. The station formally agreed "to clean up
its act," FCC Chairman Michael Powell said in June.
Women's groups such as the National Organization for Women and the
National Research Center for Women & Families are urging people to
e-mail Clear Channel and the FCC to complain about the contests.
The president of Clear Channel, Mark Mays, can be reached by dialing
210-822-2828 or e-mailing markpmays@clearchannel.com. You can contact
the FCC by calling 888-Call-FCC. To file a complaint, log onto
www.fcc.gov/cgbl/complaints.html and click on form 475.

| I work just down the street from CC's headquarters in San Antonio and
have several friends who work at the headquarters. They were
completely astounded that Mr. Mays would make this statement because
nothing goes on at any CC station without corporate knowledge and
consent. It is a highly controlled, corporate environment.

Thanks so much for this info ...
I've also been in contact with several women who have contacted the DJ
in question ... he claims he receives no negative calls ... yet they
have refused to let the women speak out.

The PS who is paying to promote this dangerous contest ... is breaking
his own PS Society rules:
American Society of Plastic Surgeons
Code of Ethics
Preamble
As stated in its Bylaws, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons,
(ASPS) is organized:
EXCERPT:
K.The member participates in a charity raffle, fund raising event,
contest or other promotion in which the prize is any procedure.
(10/99)
B. A member shall not compensate or give anything of value directly or
indirectly to a representative of the press, radio, television, or
other communication medium in anticipation of or return for
recommending the member’s services or for professional publicity.

| One other thing I forgot to mention is that while they are promoting
these types of contests and talk at CC, the Mays brothers and their Dad
are the biggest political conservatives in the country. Of course,
they will lower their standards when it means making a buck to add to
their billions.

| Anyone collecting for a free penile enlargement contest??? I'll
contribute. Now, who could we get to post the before and after photos?

====================
Would someone post an email or website where people could write them with
this new contest idea?
