A hell of a lot more than this Hollywood idiot!!! I donated a very hefty sum
to the Red Cross.
And, BTW, I am a paramedic with 18 years experience. I'd be down there in a
heart beat if it were not for my age.

I get a kick out of the fact that he brought his "personal photographer."
Also there to help, no doubt! <g>

That alone led me to believe that the responding poster probably hadn't read it real closely.

So, you haven't spent the time or money to actually go there and help
out personally.

So actually getting off of one's XXX and doing something is a good
thing, then?

Some of us have to support families.
You're, no doubt, one of those people that puts actors/actresses/professional
athletes on a pedestal, above everyone else.

You mean until the "How are you going to get any people in that
thing?"

Up to "but apparently forgot to plug a hole in the bottom of the vessel"
I thought: well, Mr.Penn tries it at least, and shit happens to the best
ones - at least I know one mission here last year, where exactly this
lead to a sunk rescue boat (with 4 almost drowned rescuers, that was the
not-so-funny-part).
But the rest of the article changed my view...
Bye - and best wishes for all real rescuers in the wet part of US!

And that, of course, gives you license to attack those who do have the
resources to get involved directly.

Not hardly.
But I'm also not bashing anyone for wading into that mess and helping
out, no matter how inept they may appear to be.

Saying that Mr. Penn was an idiot for doing what he did is hardly an "attack."

"Not hardly." Is that the opposite of "hardly?"

Yeah. With his personal photographer. And, when his boat began sinking,
it was probably necessary to divert help from those who *really* needed
it.
Big help!
Notan
PS - As a member of the medical community, I *did* volunteer my services.
No personal photographers. No leaky boats.

If you've been in this business very long, you know that untrained,
uninvited, freelancing civilians jumping in to "help" are rarely, if ever,
any help at all. In fact, they're usually quite the opposite, consuming
resources and often becoming victims themselves.
The fact that he chose to occupy a seat in his boat with a photographer
instead of leaving it available for a victim pretty much says it all. If
he wanted to help, he would have gotten his wallet out and stayed the hell
at home where he wouldn't be in the way.

That gives us license.. as it we needed, to make fun of people
who come to disaster with a leaky boat and a personal photographer.

How about inept AND self-agrandizing.

And if he wanted to come to the area, he coulda done more good
hitting the shelters and glad handing people and signing autographs.
