Recognizing ...

"... the resistance
Of police officers seeking early assistance
With their personal human problems
Has been high due to their fear

Of stigmatization
And/or career jeopardy.

Studies have shown that cops,
As helpers, perceive themselves as failures
If they ask for help until,
Oftentimes, it is too late.

The result is suicide, homicide,
Or other bazaar behavior that further tarnishes
Their police image.

POPPA helps cops help themselves."

"Bill Genet, was a 31 year veteran
Of the NYPD when he founded POPPA
Back in 1996.

He has served as the director since that time.
Under his leadership,

POPPA has grown to a seven member staff
And a volunteer corps of 200
Active New York City police officers.

POPPA recruits and trains
Cops of all ranks to provide a lifeline
For fellow cops

Experiencing personal or professional problems
Such as trauma, stress, depression,
Alcohol abuse,
Or family tensions."

Let it go

After saying that?"
~ Margaux

O, alas ~ Dr.

A sentence with 'However.'

And I believed
Her, too. I always do."

"Hat Racks
That connect.

Once metaphors were the stuff of poetry
Not proteins ~ but no more.

You are just as likely these days to run across
Them in a scientific review
As in a sonnet.

Despite the 300 ~ year effort by Hobbes, Locke
And a legion of logical positivists
To confine them to the English classroom,
Metaphors

Are suddenly inescapable in technical prose.
>From chemical scissors

And solvent cage to optical molasses and squeezed light,
>From DNA fingerprints to read-only memory,

Metaphor is out
Of the scientific closet.

[Scientific American,
May 1992, p.144]

To engineer human,
Engineer as hypothesis,
To forgive Divine, if only ..."
~ Anne Eisenberg

"... if only,
Forgiveness sought, asked
For, harm recognized, recorded,
Redressed."
