Author Survival and Austere Medicine: The Book
Reasonable Rascal

Two years in the making the first major update of the original Survival
Medicine FAQs - first posted to the web in 1997 - is now complete and
available on line. A hard copy version in book form is also available
directly from the publisher at cost plus shipping. You really can take
it with you when the power goes out.

Survival and Austere Medicine: An introduction

Second Edition

Written and Edited by The Remote, Austere, Wilderness and Third World
Medicine Discussion Board Moderators

April 2005

Written by an international team headed by the physician author of the
original FAQs the work comprises over 200 pages in Word format. Not as
many illustrations as we would have liked but it does not lack where it
is needed.

New sections written for this version include but are not limited to:

The basic laboratory

Herbal and botanical medicine

Other alternative medicine

Women's health issues

Austere dental care

Austere nursing care

and more.

All of the original sections have received major updates. The references
section, for instance, reviews important medical books of particular
relevance to survival medicine that were not published by the time the
original FAQs came out and is divided into Must Have, Should Have and
Nice to Have sections.

For now only the Australian download site is active. The US site should
be active very soon, and the publisher is cranking out copies on demand
as we speak. Nothing fancy, wire-bound 8-1/2 x 11 format. Yes, Virginia,
there really are pictures, too.
