Really, my mother's house "down the shore" used to be serviced the
same way until she retired and got to spend more time down there. When
I re-piped the house, I installed a slop sink with fawcets on the
lowest point of the house just to be able to drain the lines.
I heard something - not sure if it's a rural legend - that if you
leave some water flowing, it won't freeze.
