What in the Blue Blazes happened? Obviously something to do with the
engine, but WOW! And brand new by the look of it.

Don't you get huge fires when magnesium engine blocks catch alight?

Probably... If engine blocks were really 100% magnesium, and not magnesium
alloy.

From what my contacts tell me;there's definately something with engine
blocks and gearboxes though...

I'm still not clear as to what you're asking...

What do you mean, "there's something with engine blocks and gearboxes?"

Pure magnesium is *not* used in any (consumer) automobile parts.

Magnesium is extremely vulnerable to corrosion - any contact with salt air
and 'pffft!'; it takes a matter of days for it to corrode.

They still burn if they get hot enough and a car fire, with petrol
(gasoline) would be plenty hot enough.
