female firefighter

| Im not sure if this is the right place to post, but I will give it a
shot. I am a 28 year old female who just recently made the change
from a stay-at-home wife to a firefighting career. Throughout my
training, my husband and family were skeptical, but very supportive of
my decision. I have always wanted to do something that allowed me to
make a difference in peoples lives, and this definitely gives me that
opportunity. I completed all of the training that my fellow male
firefighters did and pull my full share of the duties and tasks that
are asked of me. My problem is that my fellow male firefighters seem
to "look down" upon me or not give me full credit because I am a
female. I pull my weight, and I am not sure what to say in fear of
making matters worse. What should I do? Keep quiet or speak up?
Thanks for any advice.

| Please Emily
Do NOT put up with the crap.
Stick to it and speak out.
This kind of behaviour makes me sad, as I am a man in emergency services and
I really get upset by this wrong behaviour.
Are there any real men in your service?
Try to do your best, and remember... do not play their game. Do your best,
but do not allow yourself to put yourself at risk.
Stick to it.

Do not let these male chuavanist pigs put you off your job. You are a
credit to the female race. Stand up for yourself and talk them down or
matters will only get worse. L Gillies
