Author Advice on EMT training.

Hello,

I am interested in serving as a volunteer EMT.

In my day job, I am a research economist at a university. I have
often volunteered for organizations in various "desk job" roles. Now,
I would like to volunteer doing something more hands on - something
that is different from my day job. I must admit to a selfish
motivation as well - as I approach 40 years old, I am finding a need
to get my adrenaline pumping a little.

I think EMT work may fit the bill, but would like some expert opinion
from you guys/gals.

If I were to complete a basic (EMT-B) certification, do you think
volunteer opportunities would be available? Do you think I would be
able to make a meaningful and significant contribution to a rescue
squad (or other organization) with such a small amount of experience?
Does EMT volunteer work sound appropriate for me?

Do you have suggestions and/or can you share any experiences you have
had?

Thanks in advance!

Alan
