Can someone recommend a 10 - 15 minute nightly yoga routine?

| Hi all,
I suffer from poor flexibility and would like a 10 - 15 minute simple
yoga routine that will help me improve flexibility. Ideally it will be
a routine that I can do every night and focusses on stretches around
the groin, hamstrings, quads etc ... basically lower body area.
Thanks
John

| Dear John,
Welcome to alt.yoga
Do your self a favor. Buy this book used for a penny + shipping; do it
for 10-15 minutes daily for 30 days and you will be absolutely amazed.
I promise :-) If you are not I will personally replace the cost* of the
book :-)

I have to chime in to say that I love this book! It was a fantastic
way for me to get started with yoga. Since then I've incorporated
other lessons into my practice, but I always do some or all of Richard
Hittleman's lessons.[vbcol=seagreen]

Hi,
Thanks very much for your response.
Are there any other titles that you can recommend? I am currently in
New Zealand and I rang the local book stores but no one had this book.
I am hoping to pick up a copy locally but if I can't find anything
reasonable then I will order through Amazon.
Thanks

| John,
I can whole heartedly recommend any book by Hittleman. He excels at
teaching real yoga to westerners and especially beginners with little
time, but a willingness to consistently practice and the ability to
follow instructions carefully from a book. In other words if you were
my neighbor and you knocked on my door and asked me for a yoga book I
would take any one of the 4-5 Hittleman books I have and hand it to
you, as my first choice of everything I have read or practiced. If you
don't restrict your search to any particular title you will have a
better chance of finding one locally. Other books you may find in a
used book store are books by Indra Devi, or Andre Van Lysebeth. Both
good teachers for self taught westerners. Yoga Mind & Body, by
Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Center is a good, colorful introduction to yoga,
although for teaching yourself I prefer the detail of the others. A
rock solid classic is The Complete Illustrated Book of Yoga, by Swami
Vishnudevananda. However this is a bit more daunting to the beginner.
There are many good books available. I have mentioned those I am
familiar with and have studied from. Several group members often
recommend B.K.S.Iyengar's, Light on Yoga. Go to a shop and look at some
books and pick one that resonates with you. I personally prefer the
older 50's, 60's vintage books and they are usually cheap. But buy one
and try it. Most any of the older books will be responsible and
detailed with the basics. I would stay away from the modern market
driven "power yoga" type books until you have a grounding in the basics
and are in a better position to tell the good stuff from the junk.
Good Hunting :-)

| john - i do 10 - 15 minutes each morning. i try to involve as much of
my body as possible unless i'm having a specific problem (usually my
back).
here's a few of my routines, though i try to be as unroutine as
possible. i always start with breathing till i feel centred, and end
with seated chanting om.
-one very slow sun salutation. i take 3 breaths or more in each
position, try to ensure i'm doing the pose as correctly as i can, feel
each part of my body. i end with savasana.
-seated breathing, cobblers pose, seated forward bend, cat/dog/downward
dog/child's pose vinyassa, pigeon pose - both sides, half bridge,
reclining twists - both sides, savasana.
- seated breathing, seated forward bend, all the warriors, standing
wide legged forward bend,
happy baby pose, reclining twists, savasana.
try googling 10 minute yoga for more ideas.

Hi John - I searched ebay and found this link for Richard Hittleman's
book. It's really a great book. And look how cheap!

Yes, excellent. Learn a variety of asanas. Mix and Match. Don't let
the routine become a routine.
