IanR's ashtanga.org.uk site hijacked ?

| This is the site that IanR said he was going to put a yoga faq wiki up
on. I went to check out the wiki and it looks like the site has been
hijacked.
Would you take a look and let me know what you think?

| what's the site supposed to be like, jared?
looks like a lot of other yoga sites i've seend.

Nancy,
When I go to the site and I click on any link on it, all that appears
is "sposored ads", There is no content related to the site its self.
The ads are somewhat indiscriminate and for things like porno and the
like.

| Please click on all the links you find. In particular if you click on
"nude yoga" you get ads for porno.
In fact it looks to me like the entire site has been rigged as a
"ad/click mill". Now either this was done on purpose because someone
bought a domain that was let go and created a yoga flavored click
generating site. Or someone came onto the site (possibly through an
insecure wiki install?) and created this site.
At the moment the site does not appear to be a functioning yoga site,
consistant with ashtanga.org. If you look at the ashtanga.org (no .uk),
it is a serious yoga site. Whether these two "orgs" are related, I
don't know.
Something seriously fishy going on here. Please check the internal
links and see what you think.

search using the link text as input, so "Nude Yoga" will get some funny
results.
As for why, don't know. Who would it benefit to hack it that way and are
there other examples of sites where the front page has been left intact
and the links taken to Google? The framesets on the linked pages looked
OK.

Clearly. But if you were sponsoring a real "yoga" site would you be
linking ads to sex? I doubt it.

A buyer of an abandoned domaine might benifit (at least for awhile)
from this kind of link mill, I see it all of the time. I had a domaine
that I maintained for years and when I finaly let it go someone scapped
it up and started running "links" related to the subject matter I had
once provided. I believe there are "spiders" and other "crawler"
programs that look for domains that have had some "age" on the internet
and which have closed out, then buy them up and post related "click"
content.
Why someone would "hack" it is another question. Of course, depending
on the site traffic, even a couple of days of "clicks" could make
substantial denero (money). I would think though, because there was
someone being "paid" that it would be rather easy to ID, this person.
Spammers and hackers are parasites which feed off of other's work.
Apparently a neccesary part of the ecology of this earth.
I appreciate your looking at it for me. I have contacted (as far as I
know) the holders of the domaine and made them aware of the situation.
We'll see what happens. If it is a commercial click mill sort of
situation, then I think abuse complaints to the Host might be
appropriate.

I'm not familiar with any examples.

I don't think it's been taken over, it's just a typical link farm.
I get the page in Swedish, and the links lead to lists of links to (as
far as I have been able to judge it) strictly commercial Swedish sites.
From here it looks like this:

| I contacted them to tell them there was something very un-yoga-like
about their site. They have not contacted my, so I assume they are OK
with the fact that it is a link-farm. Still doesn't seem very yoga-like
:-)

Hi Jared,
Thanks for your good wishes - my treatment has gone well. Tho guess I won't
be doing the ashtanga style series for some time... A reason to look at the
asana practise again
No relationship to ashtanga.org.uk - perhaps a typo . The yogawiki can be
found at http://ashtanga.org/yogawiki - This will become
http://yogawiki.ashtanga.org at some point
Perhaps the confusion arose as my personal site is http://narian.org.uk
