Off-topic & cross posts, spam, trolls and other nasties

| Paul made a comment in another thread about off-topic political posts
and this got me to thinking (and looking).
I notice a number of recent posts have been cross-posted. Some posts
were to groups which may be considered ³complementary² to alt.yoga; some
decidedly antagonistic and some with no discernable connection.
In my experience rarely do cross-posted threads produce viable or
satisfying exchanges. Indeed these threads are often off-topic, designed
to provoke hate and discontent; a decidedly un-yogic-like undertaking.
Over the years I have noticed something else. Rather then sharing with
friends in other groups it seems cross-posting is a favorite activity of
trolls or others intent on maximizing reactions to their provocation.
Cross-posting is also the method of choice for commercial interests and
other purveyors of Internet garbage or spam.
In other words, almost without exception, cross-posts correspond to
trolls and spam.
I personally try to avoid cross-posts/ing, however Google makes this
difficult because it does not readily list the groups posted to. One
must dig down and make a point of looking. I can avoid this problem by
using a real news-reading program but even then, I have to be paying
close attention :-)
I am thinking however that it may be a point of yogic discipline to
ensure that I don't cross-post without awareness or intent. After all if
I help the haters and spammers by passing their garbage along to others
then I am also responsible.
What do you think?

Nail them up, nail some sense into them.
