OK I have just received the letter from the hospital to arrange an
appointment for **counselling** prior to my vasectomy op! Shit! Why do they
have to call it **counselling**? That just makes me more nervous (sob).

Anyway, just wondered if there is anyone here with any experience of being
neutered (sob...whimper) and has any Yoga tips to help me through the
physical and mental aspects of having a bloodthirsty knife wielding surgeon
coming at my family jewels.

Paul

P.S. As you can tell, I'm being very brave and grown up about this.

Yeah I have experience. You'll live. They call it councelling because they
have to advise you of the relative permanence of it. When I went they took one
look at my life situation and it was a relative no-brainer. Basically it
boiled down to "Are you sure?", "Umm, yeah... sure". If you are married
the real seller can be "just imagine what your wife has to go through
for the same effect." Also ask yourself "do you want more children?".

Be a man, or should that be?.. Be a neuter (which you really are not).

Just as a side note...

After I went to yoga class the same day.

SLAP, GROW UP MAN! SNAP OUT OF IT! SLAP, SLAP...

But really :-)

Sorry, no personal experience w/this one. I am pursuing a somewhat
different path (celibacy). But I do know a vasectomy has nothing what's
so ever to do with being "neutered". They are not even remotely
similar. I would caution you to be mindful of the words you use to
describe your environment. They can be very powerful, especially in
supporting fear.

However my understanding is, that the procedure is like "no big deal"
at all.

Does it have any yogic implications? I've never heard of any and I
can't readily imagine any either. It could be considered a form of
renunciation, in that you are deciding to never to physically sponsor a
returning human soul into the world again. On the other hand if the
purpose is to have sex more freely with fewer responsibilities then
this could be considered an indulgence of your baser instincts (or just
plain smart).

Beyond your immediate anxiety about the procedure, the only meaningful
considerations I can see are emotional / psychological ones. Hence
"counseling" seems quite appropriate.

BTW, I liked your namaste smiley. Inspired me to think about how I
might represent namaste, smiley style. Did you notice?
