Can Yoga Make Me Taller?

| I'm a 19 year old female and I want to be taller very badly. Can yoga
help me? I'm only 5'2" and I WANT to be 5'6". I'd never have to hem
pants and my job would be easier and I'd be able to control my weight
better.
What positions will make me taller?

Hi Susan,
and welcome to the yoga newsgroup on Usenet (alt.yoga)!
It is quite possible that there are no asanas that can make you tall.
Instead, why not learn to appreciate the benefits that come with your
natural size?
I have often wished I was shorter. A short person always sits
comfortably in the seats of buses or airplanes. Also, your heart won't
have to work so hard to make the blood go all the way from your feet to
the head. Also, every bed is big enough, and you don't bump your head on
things all the time.
Having said this, there is an asana that is believed by some to
straighten and lengthen your legs (but I don't believe that).
I don't remember its name, and I can't find it in any of my books, but
it is done standing on one toe while you twist the other leg around the
(bent) leg you're standing on. Also, your arms are twisted around each
other and the hands are clasped in front of your face. Perhaps someone
else knows the name of this asana from this description?
Susan, I hope you don't try this asana going by my description only. I'm
not a yoga teacher, and I'm sure I've left out lots of important stuff.
But if you find a good, authoritative description of it, or find a yoga
teacher who knows it and can teach it to you, then go ahead, there can
be no harm in trying it then, even if it probably won't make you any
taller.

Sevenhundred Elves is entirely correct. Yoga will not make you taller,
though it can help your posture, if you slump it may help you stand
straighter. However a steady practice of yoga will give you insight.
The most important insight is the fact that you are what you are, enjoy
the body you have its the only one you will have in this life.

I found its description on the following web page:
http://www.yogajournal.com/poses/785_1.cfm
But they do it a little different than I said.. I use to raise the heel
from the ground when I do this "eagle pose" (Garudasana), the better to
improve my sense of balance.
(But I still don't think it will make anyone taller)
Namaste
