Its easy enough to research it Don, I am learning Arabic, and have
researched Egypt where I hope to go later in the year both ancient and
modern and the Islamic religion,
Understanding the culture your visiting and speaking a little of the
language helps you to enjoy your visit a great deal more and leaves a
far better impression than ignoring the local culture and upsetting
local cultural codes. So I will wear trousers or long skirts, socks, and
long sleeved high necked tops, its not a big problem in fact its pretty
much what I wear anyway.
If you go to a Muslim country as a woman and leave your shoulders upper
arms, chest or legs bare your regarded as a prostitute, and you lose
respect. If your a man if your in a Muslim country and wear short
sleeves or go bare chested your regarded as little more than a
barbarian. And you lose respect...
In Moslem countries the top is not considered to be homosexual only the
partner who is acting the part of a woman is seen as homosexual, as
Moslem men often can not marry until they are in their thirty's such
behaviour is seen as acceptable as long as its done in private. And as
long as you are not the bottom.
Its perfectly normal to see Moslem men kiss and hug each other and even
wonder down the street hand in hand, its part of their culture and the
men doing it are not necessarily gay, in fact probably not gay.
Men and women kissing holding hands or hugging each other in public is
regarded as scandalise and almost on a par with having public sex.
Finding out such things is not a problem... it just takes time and a
little research, plus I was lucky enough to have access to a couple of
Moslem friends who could clue me in. both on the culture and the
differences. I could have found out everything I wanted to know in
library's and on line... but it makes it faster if you have people you
can talk to and ask questions of.
Homosexuality in Moslem countries is a treated in much the same way as
its treated in Catholic country's, its a criminal offence, and has a
long prison term attached to it if your caught.
The difference is the only one considered homosexual is the one who is
providing his anus
