I've read the post about blocked nostrils during a cold and I remembered
someting I want to find out for a while.
Well, I have a deviation of nasal septum (one nostril is narrower that the
other).
The doctor says that's not serious, no surgery required.
But when I do nose breathing alteration excercise, I can not breathe through
one nostril.
So what then?
Yoga says "do things as long as you're confortable".
Should I stop then?
Any ideas?

Thanks.

Hi,

I agree with you, that one should listen to their body. If it hurts,
stop. Chances are there is something else you should be
learning/practicing first.

There are a number of things you can do to try and resolve your nasal
congestion before attempting alternate nose breathing.

Neti: A purification technique for cleansing the nasal passages
Kapalabhati: A breathing technique for purification of the nasal
passages and the lungs.
Sirshasna (headstand)
Fasting (Short water or longer juice) To cleanse and balance the body.
This will also help to indicate allergies to food/drink or lifestyle
which likely contribute to your congestion.

I would suggest seeking the guidance of a qualified and experienced
teacher. If you are so inclined and capable of learning from books I
can suggest The Complete Illustrated Book of Yoga by SWAMI VISHNU
DEVANANDA, as a good source for information on these techniques. Also a
search on the web will net (pun intended :-) a great deal of
information.

Namaste

Persaverance goes a long way.

Many times I see a middle aged man around my neighborhood. He cycles and
cycles and cycles. The thing is he has a lame left leg. It is obvious
when he goes up a hill, he use his left arm to help his leg pump his
peddle. He also goes quite fast, despite his problem.
