You are hereby encouraged to join millions of others on Buy Nothing Day
next Friday, Nov25

http://www.adbusters.org/metas/eco/bnd/

For 24 hours, millions of people around the world do not participate --
in the marketing mind-games, and the frantic consumer-binge that's
become our culture. We pause. We make a small choice not to shop. We
shrink our footprint and gain some calm. Together we say: enough is
enough. And we help build this movement to rethink our unsustainable
course.

Things like cutting up credit cards and dropping huge "buy nothing"
banners across shopping malls have frightened and angered some
retailers. CBS, ABC and NBC refuse still to air ads promoting Buy
Nothing Day.

Watch an excellent(!!!) By Nothing Day tv spot:

101 things to do on buy nothing day:

----------------------------------------

The establishment, the upholders of the status quo want us to be
consumer slaves - to drive new cars, to wear fashionable new clothes,
to have all the latest toys, and in a word - to worship material goods,
ignoring the fact that our leadership (so called) in the USA is the
worst in the world, the # 1 obstacle to world peace, and the #1 cause
of needless human misery.

Impeaching Bush and his minions won't solve all our problems, but it
will be a step in the right direction:

I've heard of this before, but I don't get it. If you need something,
and you don't buy it that day, you'll go and buy it the next day. No
problem for any company at all.

There was a similar e-mail that came out awhile ago like this,
"protesting" gas prices. The e-mail reported that the oil companies
will lose thousands of dollars if people don't buy gas on that
particular day. People still need gas. It never would have worked.
Didn't work.

That is right.
More important to stop and think and realize that most stuff is bought
out of desire not need.

There you go. Let's have a stop and THINK day!

Or a stop and not-think day.

Or just a stop day.

Have a day,

Or just a holiday

That's what I like about yogis. They can make an intelligent discussion
out of the most inane post imaginable :-)
