Fix thy mind on Me only - Bhagavad Gita, chapter XII
|

| Bhagavad Gita, chapter XII
"...Fix thy mind on Me only, thy intellect in Me, (then) thou shait no
doubt
live in Me alone hereafter."
In many instances, people and the Yogis take this sentence literally,
thinking of "Me" as of Krishna. But the real meaning is: "...Fix thy
mind on the sense of Self (Me) only, thy intellect in experience of
the sense of Self (Me), (then) thou shait no doubt
live in his or her own sense of Self alone hereafter."

Thanks for the different perspective. It makes more sense than
worshiping some God.
How does one go about this "fix thy mind on Me only"?
BTW, I really cannot visualize anything very well, so any practices
involving visualization really frustrate me.

You can start by bringing awareness to a sound. Eventually the sound
will subside and leave only transcendence.
http://www.wildmind.org/meditation/mantra/index.html
has fairly easy directions. Try to do it every day for at least three
weeks before you give it up as a waste of time.

I would have thought both were the case. Fix your intellect within and
discover you are a Soul then concentrate your intellect on the supreme Soul
(Shiva - means point - not Krishna of course).See yourself as a Soul then
others as Souls and finally see God as a Soul too.

Thanks for the link. I was wondering....
Is it better to listen to someone else say Mantra on say CD's?...OR
should I say the mantra myself?

Say it yourself. Then you will find a rythm that suits you, and it will
be in harmony with your breathing automatically.

I agree and disagree. Say the mantra to yourself. Say it with the
same effortless you think everyday thoughts. As you repeat it, it will
change. Allow it do that.
As a beginer, start with a simple two syllable mantra. Like EEM MA or RAM MA
If it goes in harmony with the breath that is okay, but it is also okay
if it does not go with the breath. The important thing is that you
bring your attention to it, without judgement.
When your mind wanders, and it will, bring your attention back. Know
that your mind wandering is an important part of the cycle. Do not
scold yourself for wandering, it is natural. Just bring your attention
back to the sound.
