| What is the Dr talking about? (But first, some background. This is a small
city and my wife's retinal Dr is associated with the leading
ophthalmologists, but he is miserable when it comes to communications and
patient reassurance.) My wife's macular hole developed in Dec 2005. The
first diagnosis was to wait and see if it would seal itself. It didn't, so
a vitrectomy was performance in April. The operation produced no benefit,
but we accept that. However, afterward, the Dr took a look at it and
declared, WELL FOLKS, I RECOMMEND A REOP. I presume that is short for
re-operation. I politely asked him if he would please give us some
information! What would that entail? He did not give me an explanation in
layman's terms, but a medical phrase instead. I asked him again. My sense
of the 2-3 sentences he condescended to toss off was that he would go in
with a laser and seal the hole that way. "NO FACE DOWN RECOVERY THIS TIME,
FOLKS!" he added. So could anyone give me the technical term for this
procedure so I can research it?
